Rather do pick 51 and a prospect. That gives murray flexibility to try to move up if he sees somebody in the mid teens. I think organizationally it makes sense to draft a left wing and a left d at 21 and 31, or package them to move up a few picks if there is a guy that he has to have. Goalie just is not a position im giving up assets for.

I'm not sure 51 and a prospect gets you a #1 goalie.

I like the fact that Murray has a lot of options with those picks to make trades to fill roster spots of need. Gonna be fun next week.

Also fine with taking No-worth back for 3-years until one of our prospects develops -or we trade for someone good - when we are good

I know you have mentioned that you have seen a lot of Lack out there in Vancouver and I would have no problem with 31 for Lack. I think he has #1 potential, along with Talbot. Neuvirth didn't seem to happy with getting traded but I would be fine with that as well.

I wouldn't mind Jones. The plus with Jones is he's an RFA as opposed to Lack or Talbot who will be UFA's after the coming season. If you trade for Jones and sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal, that bides time for some of the prospects to develop in our system.

No chance if trade for Lack or Talbot
Jones worries me BC I haven't seen him enough.
Idk if he's Bernier, or if he's Scrivens?
Everyone in LA looks good
Actually...
I'd rather trade for Bernier. At least I know he's good. And on a pretty crappy team too. He's good enough to help this team grow into a contender. And I'm guessing the Leafs woul like to load up on picks, which we have extra of. Could make sense for both teams

I would think Bernier would be part of their rebuild.

What makes this interesting is there are several teams that need starting goalies and lots of options out there.

At this moment, doesn't look like we can count on any of our goalies to become #1s

And we need to get a decent goalie so that we can "get good"
Look at the difference between NyI & the Oilers...
Halak is much better than Scrivens, and that was the major difference
Neuvirth, Enroth, Lindback... All = Scrivens
Unless we can trade for a young future #1 (Allen, Gibson, etc)... We need to get our "Halak"
That way this team can get moving in the right direction instead of sucking for years BC we decide to go with patchwork goaltending
Ask the Oilers how that's worked

I'm not worried though
As I've said all along...
Goaltending is Murray's #1 focus this offseason.
That's pretty obvious from all his repeated comments in the topic

You'd think
But his name is out there in rumors
I think it depends if the Leafs wanna trade Kessell & Phaneuf and bottom out.
If they do, trading Bernier makes sense
If they wanna try to rebuild on the fly, then they should keep him

I'm not sure, the additions on the blue line for the Islanders was the major difference IMO. I think Scrivens has gotten a bad rap because of the team in front of him. Look at Dubnyk for example he was up and down in Edmonton, had a year with good numbers and then a year with awful numbers. Him on Minny and he is a top 5 goalie in the league.

The fact that he hasn't signed (yet) with Minny suggest that he is holding out for a pot full of gold. Is he a one-hit wonder? Or is he worth the risk if he is still available come July 1? I personally would rather go with Lack or one of the other lower cost/lower risk options. But definitely not Lehner. He has a bad noggin'.

I think the fact he isn't signed is due to the fact they have like no cap space (less than $8 million) and like 9 people to sign

Anyone see this in JJ's blog?

McDAVID/EICHEL

Heard from a source that there is an emerging point of view, among those who’ve interviewed them, on each of these top draftees in terms of attitude and demeanor. McDavid is as advertised. Eichel: “entitled and kind of a jack a--.”

Yea, sorry it's a load of crap. DDM said it best, the old school hockey minds think he's an entitled jackass because he's got some personality instead of the classic robot canadian cliche answers that mcdavid gives (just like tavares, stamkos etc).

Ninny is so much better than Edmonton, hard to compare IMO
And the defense for NyI certainly helped, Halak was the big difference. The NYi had similar defensemen that they've lost over the years & were still bad with them.

It's kind of getting away from my point though
Since we do have a good young defense...
Let's get a good goalie back there with them

With an average goalie, the steps we'll take towards getting better will be small. We aren't ready for the playoffs yet, but we don't need to finish picking in the top5 next year either.
Clearly Murray agrees with this point
Bylsma also said u need to build from the goalie out
Blows my mind how ppl disagree
We don't necessarily need Carey Price, but the trio we had last year isn't gonna cut it

Btw, Neuvirth sucked for the Isles

Well we're gonna pick him anyways,
So whatever
I'm not worried about it though
For me he's confident & exuberant
That doesn't equal cocky, not yet at least
I really like all his enthusiasm

I guess
But he still should've been better
And he's proven over his career that he's an average starter (at best)
That's not good enough IMO
We should aim higher
I don't want to be like Edmonton, with all tho talent but a goalie that loses games 5-4 every other night

I understand those who don't want a 6mil goalie, but that's just what a good goalie costs now-a-days
I'd prefer to trade for someone like Gibson though
Younger, cheaper, and has that #1 potential
That would be ideal

Anyone notice how Murray never mentions bring back the goalies we've had here when he's questioned about it?
Seems like he's not considering it, we shouldn't either
And for good reason IMO
