They're another team tight to the cap, but there's a few spare parts they can certainly get rid of to retool. A majority of that getting rid of thing will be trading a high priced contract or two not named Mike Richards. I mean with him, you can:

1. BO completely. This would be a $1,897,500 cap hit for 10 years.
2. Trade him and retain salary. I think the league max is 50% (feel free to correct) so that would be at the least a $2,875,000 cap hit for 5 years.
3. Trade him outright, which I'd say a 50% chance you're taking bad salary back. This is to a team who's looking for 4th line leadership minutes and PK or a team looking really hard to reach the floor. If you're not taking salary back, it's a future considerations pick or an AHL player with a very, very low chance to ever play NHL minutes. This is essentially what was done with Hank Tallinder.
4. Let him chill for his full contract for the next few years in the AHL or NHL. Then you're up poop creek.

i would guess they wait another season.. they have him locked up at 5.9 and Vasey on ELC for the next two seasons.. ride it out and trade one with one or less years left on the contract.
