Reading through all these post, I see many people shooting down the Vbrata idea and suggesting that Sutter needs to be moved for a younger top 6 winger but I have yet to see one realistic suggestion of who Sutter can be moved for that would be a younger option.
The over fascination with age right now reminds me of the over fascination with size 2-3 years ago when Boston & LA were physically dominating teams in the playoffs. Age is just a number that has no real effect on anything tangible and is just the current fad that will be dismissed as quickly as size was the second a team that wins built on a different strategy.
You don't have to be young to be fast & skilled and those area the type of player Pittsburgh needs to be targeting, the only way age factors in is when the length of the contract is concerned. Find fast & skilled players that project to remain fast & skilled through whatever term is on the contract and the team will be better regardless of how old the players are. |

I don't want Jordan back... costs too much. - Guile
Obviosuly I agree. Just making a joke on which brother Jordan will demand a trade to follow. Maybe they all end up on NYR and cripple the team cap wise and voila, NYR is back in the basement |

Doubtful... Rangers have been pretty smart with most of their moves and cap management. |

Yes, I've seen many goals.
Have I seen you propose anything useful here? Nope, only whining about every offer regarding Russian players. - Guile
Ok i should agree with everything you say that would be a fun conversation!
Im glad you've seen him play. Him and 71 can take weeks off together. Semin is the reason the lazy russian stereotype exists. |

Could this trade be expanded? Something like Sutter + Bennett 4th for Kassian + Vrbata? |

We need a young blue chipper Dman, I.e Pouliot.
The assets I see Benning willing to move are the following:
Lack/Markstrom
Bieksa
Kassian
Perhaps Vrbatta
Higgins
Shinkaruk ( reported to have been included in deals before, not sure why?)
Jensen
Do you guys have a second?

1A. Dumoulin/Harrington for Rychel (mid round pick either side)
1B. Any D prospect for comparable F prospect from DET
2. Trade Sutter + to get into first round, draft Paul Bitner or another forward.
3. Sign UFA Dman (Franson)
4. Sign UFA 3c (Soderburg)
5. Smoke weed
6. Profit

I wouldn't agree with that at all. Girardi and Staal extensions, Stralman being allowed to walk, the MSL and Yandle trades are all recent moves many thought were questionable at the time. NYR probably have one more season before it all collapses on them. And if you think Pens have limited future assets, Rags have NOTHING comparatively speaking. |

A second to discuss trades? Of course, we have loads of time!
A 2nd round draft pick... I think Shero gave away all of ours until 2030. |

Sutter is still young, why trade him for somebody who is all but guaranteed gone next year (Vrbata)? Seems pretty dumb to me. I'd want Kassian coming back for Sutter, and we can take Burrows as well. I think this works for VAN:
Sutter + 3rd in 2016 for Kassian + Burrows
Burrows is injury prone a bit but his style is one that PIT can use, although I despise the cap hit, it's only for 2yrs more. He could be a solid 3rd liner who can fill in top 6 role here and there; he's the perfect example of a reclamation project that the PENS are looking for. For VAN the net is about 3mil of the books, and trading of Burrows who drastically needs a change of scenery.
FYI: Kapanen is not ready yet; needs more bulk/muscle, strength in the corners and defensive improvements. PIT would be wise to take it easy with him as CHI has done with Teravainen; they are pretty similar players actually. Sundquist looks to be ready for a 4th line C role or 3rd line winger and Wilson may be able to come in at 4th line. |

Sure do. About the only pick the Pens still do have. I'd be interested in acquisition prices for Jensen, Kassian, and Higgins. |

Yeah, except we only gave a first and throw ins. They mortgaged every last piece they had for Yandle.. Who IMO has always been overrated. |

That's weird, I am reading the comment that I made and I don't see Vrbata's name anywhere in it?
(For the record though, his 31 goals would have led the Penguins this year) - Hossa1881
So you're just trolling right? Because you said Ryan proposes trades for young exciting top 6 players around Brandon Sutter. But the article proposes a trade for Vrbata, that is not a young, exciting top 6 player.
By that logic you either think Vrbata is a young top 6 player or you're just trolling us.
So, nice talking to you. See ya.

This 100%. Even if management loves Sutter, he needs to either be signed long-term (please God no!) or traded. Letting every single pending UFA other than Staal leave for the last 8 years is bankrupting the personnel system.

It's easier for PIT to keep Sutter and his long-term value is much more than Vrbata. Said differently, there is a much stronger argument for resigning him versus resigning Vrbata. |
