After wasting 40 minutes of my life reading through this message thread try and remember a couple things:
1) Semin is terrible at any price there is no conceivable reason to get him on this team. His ship has sailed in the NHL and he's best suited to go back to the KHL and play for one of the teams that can't pay their players and have planes that don't pass many safety protocols.

2). If you trade Pouliot, Maatta, Dumoulin etcetera then you no longer have Pouliot, Maatta, Dumoulin etcetera on your team.

3) Remember that the Penguins already have a Mike Reily in their system. Jeff Taylor was 5th in NCAA scoring last year for defenseman and is a very nice looking prospect.

4) Teddy Blueger NEEDS to be signed soon or the Penguins lose him to free agency and that would be a travesty. He has a very nice 2 way game that would compliment Sundquist for years to come. He should be a priority.

5) Brandon Sutter will get a decent return but nothing too ridiculous.

6) injuries are the single biggest thing that has beat this team the last 5 seasons, bringing an older player in to this cursed organization is asking for trouble.

7) A Shawn Mathias, Zach Kassian, Blake Coumeau third line sounds beyond perfect for an Eastern conference team. Can we get this done because it would be outstanding?

Its ok Pitt just signed Niclas Andersen to a 1 year ELC. Our prayers have been answered...that is if you've been praying for a 6'1 218 left handed D-Man.

Hey, at least we're trying to sign foreign league players! Is this guy going to be our new Bortuzzo/Chorney?

You got a better plan? I highly doubt it based on your response to mine.
- 87_71_11_29

Actually I do and several of them to boot but judging by your post, which is pretty much typical fan knee-jerk reaction, I highly doubt you would be able to comprehend them. I can tell you this though and that's that none of them are based around intentionally wasting a year that doesn't need to be wasted with the hopes of getting extremely lucky next years so that the next 2-3 aren't wasted as well.

To me, that signing screams "we're not getting Reilly".

Edit: Not that I'm complaining about the free prospect.

Where does this come from? Hornqvist had a lot more time with Crosby and he did say he likes Crosby's playing style more, but he was fine with Malkin.

Be careful. From what I've gathered using rational. tangible information to refute and arbitrary opinion is frowned upon by many on here. If sammy says it was terrible then it was terrible just because he said so.

New D in rob scuderi and maybe Lovejoy out... I'm happy.. He's only 27, and he's a swede..

Now let's trade Sutter and spaling for some picks..and wait for dupuis retirement speech... Can he be on ltir before season starts?.

Are you politican? Bc that answer sounds like a bad politicans answer to a debate question when someone asks them how they will change things.

I don't think Pens had much of a chance and I doubt this move means anything in getting him in the first place (or their continued efforts in pursuing him). Hopefully he is a Soderberg-like acquisition.

True, I can't honestly fault Reilly there. If I had the chance to jump into Chicago's system I would in a heartbeat.

Id say he's a camp invite and experiment. If he can't hang then WBS. This has Janne Pesonen written all over it.

Vrbata for Sutter and Pouliot

Sutter gets a change of scenery where he can battle to be a #2 center
Pouliot gives the canucks a young left handed d-man

Vrbata gives pens someone who can score 30-40 goals on Malkin or Crosby's wing

I don't like NCAA prospects skipping out on the team that drafted them. I wish the league would get rid of that loophole or at least make the compensation the next year's first round pick.

Hell no! I don't care how good Vrbata was last year, no way I'm giving up Pouliot for a 35 year old one year rental. Much less adding Sutter in that package. I'd want something like Saad coming back for that much.

I agree completely, that's where compensation should exist, not for guys that have been fired before their deals expire. If they would make that change and keep compensation for guys that get poached I'd be happy.

I know, no way in hell I do that trade. I don't even like Vrbata for Sutter straight up. Much rather use Sutter in a deal for a non rental, younger top 6 guy. Getting Vrbata is sticking gum in a leaking dam. It will all blow up when he walks for nothing.

I think Zack Kassian and Vrbata are obtainable for Sutter and a young Dman

Some quick internet research shows he is likely a top 4 guy in WBS. Plays a physical style.

I don't see him having much of an NHL impact, if any, based on some quick research...but I am very glad this happened, just the fact that we are trying and in the market for some european free agents is a great sign.

It's a Janne Pesonen contract. Invite him to camp. Hope for a long shot and if it doesn't work he'll be down here for the season then who knows. It's worth a shot.

Pouliot is no available especially not for 1 year of Vrbata. We got raped at the trade deadline, didn't much enjoy, not happening again.

Yea, Sutter and McNeil and that's about it. Maybe a late pick too.
