Really.

I guess we should throw Tavares and Ovechkin into this group too.

Reilly Smith also came to Boston and is a hell of a player.
- dadeadhead

Was just doing a value assessment, yeah Smith looks like a quality top 6 guy, but they traded Peverly and Morrow to Dallas as well.

Just saying, this trade was like signing Ville Leino for $27 million for Boston.

Right, but money poorly spent is still money poorly spent whether it's mine or not.

My overall point is just because something can be bought at the so-called "going rate" doesn't make getting it a good idea. A trade plus contract for a guy like that is a mistake I'd rather someone else's team make.

- buffalofan19

So would I but in the end I'm not gonna b!tch about it til I'm blue in the face.

More important things in life honestly.

And he was moved for a guy who's career is more than likely over.

Thomas Vanek Playoff Performance: Games 63 Goals 20

Rick Nash Playoff Performance: Games 60 Goals 10

You were saying????

- MEBSabresFAN

Nash is also used against the other teams top line because he's very good defensively. Vanek on the other hand, is not.

I meant Button. But you get the point.

The trade was a (frank)ing bomb.

Vanek also played most of his playoff games on teams that were far better offensively than the Rangers ever were. Goaltending and defense is the major reason the Rangers are so good. I'm not saying the Rangers are utterly incompetent offensively, but they're far from being an offensive powerhouse.

If I'm given the choice of Vanek or Nash, I'm taking Nash every time with no hesitation.

If I'm looking for a rw honestly I'd call Boston about Eriksson.

Kane/Eichel/Eriksson
Moulson/Girgensons/Ennis
Foligno/Reinhart/Gionta

I was of the impression that posters rooting to get Nash it was for his Goal Scoring, I had no idea he was a PECA like Shut-Down Defensive forward.

Getting 1.7 per 10 games during the most important time of year from my leading Goal Scorer isn't good enough for my 8 Million Dollar Man. Vanek is either lazy or worried about bookies finding him

Nash has some serious playoff scoring problems, inexcusable imo. You gotta think, If he's not the focus of scoring, and this team becomes a scoring by committee team, obviously with the biggest contributions from the Eichel line.. does he still get as much poop?

I think the point is if Nash isn't scoring he's still helping in team defense.

When Vanek wasn't scoring he was invisible out there.

See, I said the same thing around the TDL, didn't seem like most were on board.

If he could get his numbers back up to 70 points, that makes him a legit top line rw. Big if though. Something about Boston kills offense.

The thing about the Sabres right now is that they're a long ways off from having to worry about it.

If, hypothetically, the Sabres were to land Rick Nash, his contract will be over by the time the Sabres really start to make a run as a contender. If he's a dud, you walk away. This is why length of contract is every bit as important as the player himself when you're talking about adding to a team like that. Any skill player with 3 years or less should be seen as gold at this point.

Get him with Eichel and Kane and he's back in that 60-70 range IMO

At least Ricky shows up during the season. Every year, Vanish took a solid 10-20 games off.

There was a game on either NBCSports Network or the NHL Network this year where Vanek fanned on a shot, and then got a penalty for tripping without taking a stride. I laugh every time I think about it.

I've been in the get Loui corner for a while now.

Take on the Savard contract for floor purposes and I bet you can get him cheap.

Exactly. Do you want him to do more than that? Absolutely, but if he's not scoring, he's still a major contributor each night.

That something is Claude Julien. Remember, he coached New Jersey for a while. He's a Jacques Lemaire disciple.

3 years just so happens to be the end of Ricky's contract and the start of Jack's.

Juuuuust sayin!
