And I thought this article was gonna be about McDonalds and Arbys getting a restraining order placed on Phil Kessel. Misleading title I must say!

Well we know all NYI fans are well aware of the cap due to past cap blunders. No need to be ignorant and ignore the fact Kessel is a star player in his prime and being paid accordingly. If your team can't afford him move along please. I personally wouldn't be heart broken if Kessel ends up staying. So much leaf hate out there. Keep making us the center of the hockey universe. The evidence pile is overflowing.

There is a lot about the Isles to make fun of over the past 30 years but lack of cap space ain't one of them.

Dont give up assets for UFA's tho...
- Jeropotato

That is what the Leafs' fans don't seem to grasp.

Plenty of teams would hand Kessel $56 million for the next 7 years. I don't think anyone would hand Kessel that kind of cash PLUS give up a young roster player, a top prospect AND a 1st round pick, which is what Leafs' fans seem to expect.

Ok I'll specify. Dealing out contracts like the Dipetro bust has made your team gun shy for other big contracts. I'm saying stop being blinded by your past cap blunders and realize that that's the money (probably more) it's going to take to get and keep star players. If you think $8million is to much for one of the best wingers right now your extremely naive to think you'll get the same talent for cheaper cost anywhere.

Really? Gun shy? I guess you missed our top three d all signed for 7 years. I have no interest in kessel. I hope the leafs get a great return for him anywhere else.

DiPietro has no bearing on anything now and never caused any cap problems (he caused "this team sucks" problems). The Isles have spent plenty of money in the past year (Halak, Grabovski, Kulemin as UFAs, signed Leddy and Boychuk to big extensions). They were never gun-shy, just cheap until recently.

$8 million for one player is still a lot of money in the NHL and 7 years is still a long term, especially if that player completely sh!t the bed in year 1 of the mega-deal. By the time $8 million ISN'T a lot of money in the NHL (a few years from now), it will then be a lot of money to be paying a past-his-prime Kessel

The Leafs really should hold onto Kessel, let him bounce back to form and then trade him at the deadline.

Arizona does have the nice weather going for them. The media wouldn't bother him either. I don't think Arizona is a preferred destination for him but I assume its not a place he wouldn't accept a trade to.
- Santo_44

You got to be kidding. Why would anyone accept a trade to Arizona. Its not a hockey town. Real hockey players wouldn't want to play there. You think Toews, Perry, Price, Stamkos or anyone like that would want to play there?. They would rather play in Edmonton, and believe me that would be no joy.

Stupid question.

Lucic, 14th overall pick and (maybe Subban) for the 3rd overall?

Is that far off? Boston papers are bouncing ideas all over the place, but I was wondering what you guys would say.

Doan is just plain stupid and lazy to move. Plus he's wussy whipped and is staying there because of his wife.

Doesnt matter, Strome will be gone once he gets to UFA status. The minute after the clock strikes he will be Toronto bound.

Yeah....can't believe some guys choose comfort over the possibility of a cup when they only have a few years to go.

Here I will spell it out for you ...ready?? Ok one awesome player( egs Kessel) is an elite star winger..teams like Tampa ,Nashville Anaheim who are a "player away " from wining the cup see Kessel as an opertunity.leafs have to rebuild so they take this "awesome" player and tell these other teams we don't want too loose this player but if we do we want a few pieces to rebuild with..now the"best " draft in over 15 years comes and leafs take that asset for multiple assets picks..now the leafs are rebuilding in a good way and the other team has a star winger..hopefully I didn't go to fast for you and now you may understand the situation better..no need to thank me..all in a day's work
