I agree. This leaf team failed because the goalies didn't compete as hard as the rest of the club. Where was Bernier when he was facing 40 shots a game and his team was working their tails off to muster in the mid 20s. The guy isn't worth a 6th, let alone a 3rd. The guy is about as unproven as a virgin sex organ until he can play behind a team willing to compete and give their goalies a fighting chance. But hey, he sucks because he couldn't piss out a forest a fire. I guess since Phaneuf got that contract, you feel he's that good?

Goalies as a rule are worth very little for what they actually are, so I don't get what you are saying. If you were the Flyers, would you trade your 7th pick for the 24th and Bernier? Would the Devils or the Jackets? They all have their own starters they are happy with. The Sharks are the only team that makes sense in that regard, but they need the early pick more than anybody. Bernier is worth a lot to the Leafs and almost nothing to the league in comparison.

Just saying it's hard to write Bernier off just bexause he doesn't have a long term contract already, plus he's played behind a team that hasn't given him any chance to succeed. Maybe other Gms see this, maybe they don't, but if having long term big contracts makes you a hero, Phaneuf must be a kings ransom.
