There are many players that just over 30 that should be available that would be a great add to actually make the team better. Reading through the comments of why not to bring them here is humorous.

I'd rather trade Larsson for say Gibson then I would for Sharp
Makes sense if you're going to ship out assets u get a guy back that will be here for a while
Vets can be signed without giving up assets
It's not that complicated

Exactly. Like goalies, these guys are everywhere. No reason to over-think it.
- Slump Buster

Thx buster. I'm older than most on here and seen many games .I see some suggestions that I remember that didn't work in the past. 30 yrs ago all we had to rely on was the news and newspaper. No internet ,no ESPN. I'm sure there are lots about players we never new about. If Crosby farts? We know about it in 2 min.

True on the sample size. Could be the systems they played for too. Seems a few goalies now a days have flourished by a change of the system. We had none since Ruff. New coach.. Having a system and a coach that will try and make it stick. We have that. Up to the players now. Can't wait till the season starts. Gonna enjoy the summer first.

True
I'd buy that argument more for Enroth than the other 2 though
They've had multiple coaches &/or teams where they've been mediocre

I agree
This summer will be very interesting
An not just for the Sabres
I think there will be a lot of movement this summer

Murray has no interest in being better if it means giving up assets for 30 year olds. That's the whole, entire point.

I understand why some folks think it's a sure why the hell not thing.

But giving up assets for those guys is absolutely, well... humorous.

I don't know that Sharp would waive to come here though. As a matter of fact, most of the guys that are over 30 that teams could be looking to get rid of probably have some sort of NTC/NMC and would probably say no. I could be wrong, but it's not like Buffalo is some hot destination.

While true, we've seen that NMC's are becoming less and less valuable to the player. Look at what happened with Josh Gorges. All it takes is the team making it clear they don't want you around, and all of a sudden your leverage goes away. Either you stick around for spite creating a toxic situation, or you play ball. Now, if there are multiple teams willing to trade for his services, and there may very well be, you have a different story.

He traded a 2nd for Josh Gorges. I would imagine you would need at least as much for Patrick Sharp.

In the case of a guy like Sharp, I would imagine that there would be a few teams interested in his services. Sharp in general should be a much more coveted player than Gorges could ever dream of being.

All depends on how badly Chicago is trying to get some cap relief. They are going to be hurting big time once the season is over and they need to restock the cupboards a bit.

click.

Josh Gorges filled a need. To be frank, we don't need our forward ranks filled. We need to upgrade our core, not trade for plugs, be it 1-3 years of service.

Sharp's demand should be a solid handful of teams. That gives him positive value. So does his reasonable contract and term. Not the greatest, but it's no albatross like Kessel.

Three things that give him negative value, decline in production, age, and the need for Chicago to shed his salary. Not to mention his NMC.

This is what hurts him the most if you ask me. Everyone knows that Chicago is not in a good place in terms of the cap and any GM that doesn't try to exploit that in some way should probably not have a job IMO.

3 UFA signings, once again, not trades as I've been harping on and a trade for a then 29 y/o defenseman who brought a huge amount of leadership was needed. Last season we had a ton of holes and, what, 3 defenseman under contract with a bunch of kids not even penciled into the lineup yet? It was a necessity, and MTL specifically called Murray to offer Gorges for a 2nd.

So yes, I'll say it again, we might sign a UFA or two around any age, but TRADING for one is a completely different concept.

All of those things happened last year. He made the comment about targeting players 24 and under this offseason.
