If leafs offered 5.4 million to Hamilton, only 100 less than the 5.5 suggested, it's only a 1st and a 3rd. If we trade Kessel, phaneuf, and jvr, we should be getting back 1st for all 3, possibly in the 2016 draft. That replaces what we gave up in the 1st round, we also have an extra pick from the winnik trade (I'm at work on my phone so I can't remember if it's a 2nd or 3rd). We basically would've added Hamilton for a good rate and he pairs up with rielly on our top pair. Don't know how anyone would argue against it.
I know that it will never happen, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be if we did offer sheet Hamilton. - matt1337
Hamilton will almost certainly sign a deal over 6/6.5mln per year, and probably 5-7 years.
Bruins will probably match anything below 7mln/y anyways, and just trade Lucic / Marchand / Eriksson. |

@24, Leafs might draft Meloche, with hopes of him becoming Morgan Rielly's partner in 3y from now. - MaximusAurelius
Eventually you will get name of the pick, keep going. |

I'd imagine the most teams wouldn't mind a top pairing d-man for a 1st,2nd, and 3rd. especially if that team is good. - GardinerExpress
i don't think we'll ever see the offer sheet become more than a once in a blue moon thing. i think you've got a case of collusion here by the owners. nothing would drive up salaries faster than 5-6 offer sheets being signed every offseason. because when you think about it, logically, why would we not see more contending teams go this route? especially the ones that are only a piece or two away like St Louis or NYR. |

If he signs for anything less than 6 I will be surprised. Especially with what petry just got paid in Montreal. I can't see them getting much for eriksson or Marchand, lucic possibly more just because teams are always looking for someone with his style of play. |

With compensation going down every year, I think it's only a matter of time before we start seeing offer sheets becoming more common. Especially from those contending teams who are only a piece or 2 away. |

disagree. teams seem to find room to sign UFAs to pretty big deals, even the top teams. |

You can always make room, by clearing out other players, but would the B's move Luc or Marchand ? |

Do we have any more poop we can trade for Marc Savard? He and Horton can chill together. |

I think that might be a hard thing to do.
6.9 million for 3 more years, for a 38 year old that only notched 20 pts last year.
what competitive team could not only absorb that salary, but give up significant assets? |

He's an RFA. He's coming off his ELC. He has no negotiation rights. He takes it to arbitration and he likely won't get over 4.5mil. |
