Brodin looked a lot more timid ever since he lost a few games early in the season when he got hit in the face by that awkward slap shot dump in

Yeah

Also Coyle and Pominville.

I would be curious to know if Minnesota would be interested in Plekanec and Emelin

Isn't Montreal trying to unload contracts? Acquiring Koivu or Pommer doesn't seem like the type of deal the Habs would be looking for.
Personally, I wouldn't mind Plekanec. More offensive upside than Koivu, better contract but not as sound defensively or as good on FO's. No interest in Emelin. Our D corps is set, unless of course Spurgeon is moved out.

Hopkins is younger and better center then Mikko so why would oilers give a dman equivalent to Dumba or Brodin. Not happening.

I would rather see the Wild make a run at Draisaitl, and I don't see Edm moving RNH but you're right it would definitely require Brodin +

This Koivu is for all intents and purposes not tradeable anyhow...

I wouldn't say he is untradeable, but anyone coming back in return for him will have a bloated contract.
Fletch doesn't seem to have the keenest eye on veterans slowing down and no longer being the best fit for the system.

Untradeable from the standpoint that he has that bad NTC.

I disagree that Koivu is untradeable. There would have to be a wholesale effort by both the Wild and Team X to complete a swap but it certainly could become reality. The thing that has to be considered is that Leipold or Fletcher probably both would have to address the want to move on from Kaptain Finn to him personally. That would take commitment for him no longer to be apart of the organization. We have yet to see them motivated to do so but that certainly does not mean it could not become reality as soon as this summer.

He's pretty ensconced here, all he'd have to do is say no, which who knows maybe they've already asked him? I just don't see him uprooting his wife and baby even if they ask him to? Maybe he does, but why would he? No one will take the C from him and he's been with the team his whole career. Sorry Im pessimistic haha!

Drives me crazy how much it APPEARS they avoid conflict with him. I am very worried that after a 3rd straight disappearing act by this veteran core versus Chicago in the playoffs, that Fletcher will have no moves to make and be selling hope with the same group this fall.

I completely agree. If we consistently hear talk like "We think the young kids can take the next step, or we feel the kids are ready to take on more," then we're in trouble imo... After this post season it's glaring that this team is deficient in many areas. We'll see how good Fletcher really is this offseason...

On one of the Russo-Souhan podcasts, Russo indicated that there were circumstances under which he felt Koivu would definitely waive his NTC. I believe he mentioned stripping him of the C would be a lead pipe cinch lock to him waiving.

That being said, I don't see them asking him to waive unless they have someone they are very confident in to replace him. I don't believe they trade him solely to be out from under his contract. He's not worthless to this team.

What is Neiderreiter's value to the Wild? I remember watching him in the World Jr's way back in the day and loved his game, havent seen him play much recently though.

Nino is such an interesting case because he is so young still and has yet to truly grown into his frame. He plays 200 foot game in addition to having a NHL Goal Scorer upside. Not sure you bail on him via trade unless the return makes you roll the dice aka Malkin in the Penguins case

The reason I'm pessimistic that he will remain with the C on his chest is that last season they offered it to Parise and he turned it down. If Parise wont take it, I see the Wild having a hard time offering it to someone else who would...

You can take Sutter off of the Pens hands. Don't even have to give up a roster player. Just picks and prospects.

Oilers trade

Hopkins
Martin Marincin

to Minnesota

for
Jonas Brodin ( stud dman, very young and can play 25+ minutes a night)
Mikko Koivu

What do you think

- hanleyaj

I wouldn't do that for Brodin. He's way better than both of those two combined.

If Koivu goes, you'd better be getting somebody that can score...or at least shoot!

Brodin has accomplished more than both RNH and Marincin, in addition to being a legit Top 2 defender he is 21 yrs old on a long term extremely reasonable long term deal that begins this season.

I am not trying to avoid the reality that RNH has the tools and potential to become a top center BUT at the NHL level he has yet to set the world on fire. Brodin was jobbed for the Calder his rookie season playing top pair minutes during the lockout shortened 2013-14 NHL season and in the playoffs. He NOW has 3 years of top pair minutes under his belt and is still yet to turn 22.

Saying all that, I seriously doubt Brodin is and will ever be available via trade so it is a moot point. The reason I mentioned Spurgeon is because it is very likely he will be available this summer. Spurgeon would instantly be the best defenseman in both ends on the Oilers roster if he was traded there.

Edmonton has several young talented forwards but adding a top pair defenseman is a HUGE need and I am not sure ANY team in the NHL is making a available one more talented and young as Spurgeon this summer. Food for thought!

Part of the comment was homeristic. I'm a believer that Brodin is an elite defensive player and at times, I believe he's actually the best defenseman the Wild have.

No disrespect towards your guys, but I'm not sold on any of your d-men to include Brodin in any trade if that's what I'm getting in return.

Nugent-Hopkins is a very good player, but I'm not sold quite yet. He had a marginal season and has a few years of mediocrity under his belt.
