Hope the kids are bulking up over the summer. NO LITE BEER DAMMIT. Could see some nice changes in them come training camp. Then we will see who should stay and who should go.

Agreed, though a trade or two could help predict who they think will be here come opening night.

You might think so, but it's completely against Murray's team vision. Old vets will not be traded for 'to win one more game". The Sharps and Thorntons will not be traded for.
- TheSabresTaco

I know that it's against Murray's plan. I am just giving my reason and its not to just win one more game, its about giving Eichel the best chance to develop in this league.

Bishop is crap in net
Hawks won the cup when they beat the ducks in game 7
Hedman is not close to myers
Thornton can't help this team
Reinhart sucks
Miller is elite

I've heard it all except a path to turn this team around this fall, and don't tell me it can't be done

I understand the reasoning.

I disagree with it completely, even though the concept itself makes sense of insulating young kids. Trading any assets other than UFAS and late round picks is counter productive to the development of our future.

It sounded to me like they plan on using Girgensons to insulate Eichel for now. Or at least that's how Bylsma made it sound when they talked to him. He said ideally Girgensons isn't on the top line, but that they can use him there for now to take some pressure of the young guys (Eichel and Reinhart).

Nobody wants to pay any of them actually. More people want RoR on here than Nash and Kessel though so not really sure what you're trying to say here.
- Herzeleid

You better read again, more people are aganist getting ROR so re read it, nobody wants to give up anything for him or trade for him.

It depends on what it would take to acquire him. Would 31st and Grigorenko be that damning to our development? This isn't just for Thorton. This is for anyone that could make a difference and play 1st line center for a year or so. Thorton's contract is for 2 more seasons. He actually would be the perfect fit in my eyes. Murray's plan is different but if Thorton centered the 1st line Eichel the second you can have Girgensons either center the 3rd or play the wing on the 2nd. Send Reinhart to Rochester if you wanted.

None of this is going to happen but it's just my thought for the day.

Which I don't necessarily agree with. Sure Girgensons can handle it but wouldn't it be better to find someone that can fit that role that's played it before? Girgensons is still developing himself.

As they should, (frank) RoR, but I pretty much said that in my comment so I know most people don't want him.

What I also said is that more people want RoR than the other two. Like maybe two people wanted Nash, same for Kessel. At least 6 on here want RoR

My only concern with trading for him is the timing of it. If it's before July 1st, we're going to have to give up a ton for him and there's no guarantee he'll stay after the year is over.

If it's after July 1st, you can tell the Avs the only way you do it is if it's a sign and trade. If there's an extension that's part of the trade, I won't have such an issue with it. But that is also contingent upon what we have to give up to get him as well.

We need a goalie and top 4 dman, and another legit scoring threat on the wing. We addressed the need at coach, let's hope the fit is right.

I don't mind playing along. But let's say Thornton comes in ultra cheap. I mean, I personally wouldn't even use our 2nd. If I'm trading Grigorenko, and at this juncture unless his offense dramatically improves sitting on the 2RW slot, he's not really much use for this team. I'd like to see him packaged for a better young player. I see giving up young players for players leaving their primes as a waste of assets tbh.

I agree with Murray's philosophy. If we're trading young assets or picks, it's going to be for another player further along in his likely lower 20's. Picking up old assets is just... useless. We have enough veteran leadership and probably a veteran UFA signing or two. What else do we ACTUALLY need at this juncture?

the goalie pick up i feel will be underwhelming/project
top 4 dman probably isn't going to happen as not many are available in the age group that TM wants them
legit scoring threat will be probably the only thing we get worth a damn this summer and we will over pay for it..

There are always exceptions to what he is trying to do. I agree sticking with the acquiring youth plan however I wouldn't ONLY target just youth. If a team like San Jose wants to move on from Thorton and you can get him on the cheap I would listen.

Sometimes it better helps develop the kids in Rochester. I mean look at Chicago Teravinen spent what 2 seasons in the AHL? Like I said before if the Sabres think Reinhart needs to go to Rochester to start I would rather see a guy like Thorton centering the first line over Girgensons or Eichel.

I wouldn't make any deal for him unless we know he will stay, i'm sure Murray or hope he feels the same way. I'm also hoping that Murray stays clear of Lehner and makes a move for another goalie.

You forgot............. " let some other team pay that amount" People want a cup but want it with all 3rd line players and none of them to make more then 3 mill a year.

Nobody wants to pay ROR 6-7 mill a yr at 24 but will take on Kessel or Nash and those horrible contracts, term of the deals are bad.

- SABRES 89

Nash's contract has 3 years left I think, I wouldn't consider that a bad contract. I would take both Nash and ROR.

I'd give up more for him than the Max Domi trade that was quoted the other day. I didn't like that one at all.

Id take Max Domi in a heart beat, could hten move him to wing (where he will most likely play in the desert) when Reindeer is ready
