I'd be okay with them trading back but that's because the player I think may be the third best player in the draft isn't projected to go top ten. That's me though.

I'm happy at 7. I definitely can't see anything good coming from trading up from 7.

- mayorofangrytown

Agreed. The player they get back may be great, but I think the difference won't necessarily be worth the price of moving up. They can stay put (or even move back if they targeted someone they know someone behind them won't take) and do just fine.

Is Kessel the Hutt worth all of those assets?

btw, I'd like to see this trade just for entertainment value alone.

Yes, but if you draft a guy like Barzal and he becomes a number one center-which is very possible-then you have a huge trade chip or cornerstone piece in place.

Coburn got a big return because he is a proven, high minute shut down defenseman on a low impact contract from a team that is trying to make a Cup run at the TDL. At the draft a couple years ago, Coburn's trade value was 3 2nd rounders.

I still go the guy I think will be the best player, regardless of position. How easy has it been for the Penguins to find good wingers for Crosby and Malkin? Despite all the high picks they spent on D, they still are giving their two franchise centers substandard wing help

- Jsaquella

i guess what it boils down to is how you asses and manage risk. i can see how youre thinking in that the flyers have good d prospect pool already and wouldn't be hurt taking a forward this year. i just feel they could acquire the forward prospects later round or through free agency. in the end its just about preference/perception really. both courses have their pitfalls.

I personally can't stand that first saying, but the rest is what would really comfort me if they indeed made him the 7th-overall.

How about Nashville. They've already worked a trade this year.
- mayorofangrytown

I was thinking Nashville might be a spot for kessel. The Toronto media hot bed seemed to get to phil's head, I'm sure he'd love to play for a small market, do his thing, be somewhat incognito. And I'm sure Nashville would take him in a heartbeat, especially since james neal didn't pan out exactly the way they planned. In his defense he was injured a bit.

i hate when announcers say that he put the puck in the back of the net. Who cares if he put it in the back or front of the net. So long as the puck is in the net, it's irrelevant.

I'd take him over Rick Nash, and that's comparable to what Nash got.

So you're basically saying that Barzal is a bad hockey player relative to the rest of the field and that Strome is a 2nd liner center at best?

In Timonen news, looks like if the Hawks make a change for game three it's going to be Trevor van Riemsdyk going in for Cumiskey or Rundbad ahead of Kimmo
- Jsaquella

Timonen is somewhere between Behn and Doug Wilson on the Hawks depth chart.

Hadn't thought of that.

And now that I think about it, I think you're right. I think I would rather have Fat Kessel than Rick Nash.

I have to think that if they have two equally ranked players avail at 7 they go forward which is what I would do also.

4 prospects on defense and not an equivalent prospect pool at forward.

You still need to score goals to win games.

The Kekalainen moves back to Finland, because he'd be fired in two seconds
- Jsaquella

Why? That's what Kessel will cost. I'd rather pay Kessel 8 million than pay Atkinson and Hartnell.

They have wayyyyy to much money locked up long term in to many forwards not named Johansen. They won't kiss Rychel or the 1st with guys like Dano, Wenneberg, Bjorkstrand, Milano coming in. I'd much rather pay Kessel long term than a declining Hartnell.

That being said, Columbus really wants a dman. I was just trying to think of a proposal comparable to the Nash trade, and ironically came back to Columbus.

Well if you put it in the back of the net it's a goal and if you put it in front of the net it's not.

I would probably put this one aside and search out new windmills. They've been saying it forever. Not sure your mini uprising here is going to get much of a reaction.

Love the anger though. Keep that going.

You grossly under-rate how good of a player Kyle Turris is.

And yes, I think Dylan Strome tops out as a decent 2nd line center. I think if you go back and re-do this draft 10 years from now, most people will agree Strome was taken 5-7 spots too early at a minimum.

Turris is a good player. His time in Arizona taints his current perception. Other tahn Kane he's right there with the rest of the forwards drafted that year.

I shouldn't say "bad" but maybe unspectacular. Good, yes. But remember, that entire draft class minus Kane was one of the weakest first rounds in recent memory. If this draft class is as deep as 2003, I'd prefer the Parise clone over the Turris one.
