NHL readiness is far down on the priority list especially for this team.
- Just5

It gives you an idea at his progress in comparison to other forwards at the draft. You don't have to worry about him developing an NHL body like some of the prospects.

They should really commit to clearing money and getting picks/prospects even if it means taking a step back this year and/or next year

What are the chances someone falls in the draft like Cout did?
- nails

Could happen. Any one of Marner, Provorov, Barzal, Hanifin, Crouse, Connor could go from top 5 to 10th or so. It seems to happen with someone every year.

I'm still with Provorov & Barzal. Rewatching highlights, I might slide Zacha or Crouse higher, but they won't pass those two.
- Jsaquella

Yup, I like Crouse a lot, but I still have Hanifin, Strome, Marner, Provorov, and Barzal ahead of him on my list.

I can't wait to go 4 of 5 seasons out of the playoffs. Was 1990 really all that long ago that it's time for a reboot?

$3 mil, possibly someone matches
$3.375, no way jose

- Streit2ThePoint

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it has to do with what the other team would offer, not what the Flyers offer.

So, say the Flyers offer MDZ $3M and he says no. Another team comes in at $3.36M (2nd round compensation). The Flyers can't force them to go to $3.7M for the higher compensation, they can either match or get a 2nd rounder. Correct? They can't set the market outside of the 10% qualifier.

With those numbers it seems like a given that one will fall 3 spots.

Honestly, if they go 4/5 seasons out of the playoffs to be a legit contender for 7-8 years, I'm all for it. That said, I think this team is a playoff bubble team right now.

Re the draft: I'm just hoping Hextall can swing a deal to upgrade the Tampa pick into the top 15. That would really be sweet.

The qualifier just ensures the Flyers keep his rights. For an offer sheet, another team needs to make the offer, and have Del Zotto sign it. Once that happens, the Flyers get a week to match or they get the compensation for whatever the sheet was worth.

That's how I see it. So if the Flyers did offer him $3.375 it would be a 1st and 3rd if another team wanted to match. Something I don't see happening.

I think he has a solid opportunity to move into the early twenties. Higher than 15? I'm not sure what else you'd have to give up to get there or if it would be worth it.

Correct, the team making the offer sheet and Del Zotto agree to a contract, and submit that to the team holding his rights.

The 90-94 was really an anomaly. By the end of 91-92, they were moving in the right direction and had a very good chance of being a playoff team the following year. However, once they made the Lindros deal, they knew that they were taking a step backwards to take a future leap forwards.

What drove me nuts, and most likely cost Farwell his job, was the hiring of Terry Simpson prior to the 93-94 season. The 92-93 team finished strong under Bill Dineen and I think, even with their goaltending issues, Dineen would have got them into the playoffs that year. However, Farwell felt that Dineen was too "easy" on the players and went with the stricter Simpson. Bad decision.

Another team doesn't get to match. Another team has two avenues to acquire an RFA from another team. Trade or OS.

I hear you, but I'm not sure it's worth giving up any quality assets to move up from 29 or 30 to somewhere in the 21-24 range. I just have about 16 or so players that I feel have a legit shot to be top 10 picks and I'd love to able to land 2 of em.

No, but I'd put money on Read playing more to the tune of his first 3 seasons as opposed to last. I'd hope the Schenn/Vinny on the top line experiment is over. I think we get at least 4th line NHL quality play from Umberger. Berube is no longer the coach.

That could be enough of a difference for a W.C. spot.
