Christopher Baj wasn’t trying to kill his wife when he fired three shots at the bathroom door she was cowering behind, touching off a nine-hour standoff at the couple’s Bethlehem Township home in January, defense attorney John Waldron, said during opening statements Monday in Baj’s trial.

“He did something wrong here. It’s clear. He committed an offense. We aren’t disputing that, but what offense did he commit,” Waldron said, addressing the jury of seven men and five women in Northampton County Court.

“I suggest he committed an offense, and that’s recklessly endangering another person,” Waldron said arguing that Baj shouldn’t be charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
