Big slow guy with offensive skill - Joe Thornton
5' 11" center with maybe even better skill - Steve Yzerman, Doug Gilmour
Who would you rather have? - Tee-Dot
The problem is that he doesn't play anything like Thornton...

how can you argue with either of them? thornton had an amazing career, as did yzerman and gilmour.
yzerman played in his prime in a different era compared to yzerman and gilmour, where it was more common for players to hit the 100 pt mark. goalies had smaller equipment, and system hockey wasn't really a thing. thornton still has 2 100 pt seasons (would be 3 if he didn't get injured in 05-06, 92pts in 58gms). |

That's just because Strome hasn't been drafted yet.
If the Leafs draft one of Strome, Hanifin, or Marner, I'm happy. I just think Strome is a step behind the other two. Apparently Arizona disagrees, so that's good. |

i'm happy with either of the 3 as well. just as long as it's not crouse. if they draft crouse at 4 when they could've traded down, i think i will cry |

I don't doubt that it works, in fact that's why I think it's a bad idea lol. I'd be asleep on the floor about 5 minutes after the night started if I used it. |

Unlikely. I think that they already have their game plan with that pick, and that it won't go off the board.
They do seem to be focussing most effort on the pick at 24 |

Agreed why does everyone want Smallish centre when a centre who lead the OHL in points has been overshadowed by McDavid is available... we haven't had a big centre since Sundin... He could potentially be what we have missed since his departure. - beleaf4ever
We just drafted a smaller forward in Nylander.....what are we shooting for? Smurfs, Ontario chapter? What are we designing ourselves after? The Scabs? This team is in need of some serious size. Looking at what's working in the playoffs, you have to have size, mixed in with skill, to survive in the playoffs. The players we draft this season, will be our core in 4 years. The team has to start thinking on where we have the biggest holes and close them. The top priority is a number one centre, to close up the gaping hole, that's been there since Sundin left.

Looking at the playoff and seeing what's working I see 2 teams that beat the bigger sized team to advance.
Skill > size. |

Yzerman had guys like Probert, Kocer and Darrin McCartey around to protect them. Lots of size on the forward lines. Gilmour still had Wendel Clarke and Dave Andrychuk playing the wings. What are we going to do? Put Marner with Brown and Nylander? They'll simply get mauled out there. The Leafs need to upgrade their size quotient and either find some large wingers to play with a Marner, or draft a large centre to play with the smaller wingers.

The teams that advanced, also had some size and grit in the mix. Keep drafting small forwards for your top 6, and that's all that you'll have going forward. Chicago had Hossa and Sharp in their top 6, plus used Bickell there as well. |
