One thing I'm sure Bylsma pitched to #sabres: acquire Jordan Staal, take some pressure off/provide mentorship to Eichel, Reinhart

- homiedclown

Rob Rossi is one of the biggest hacks out there, they're not moving staal and the sabres aren't going to go overpay for him because bylsma once coached him.

Those 5 guys could easily add up to $30-$35 million in cap space.

If they are as good as we hope. Kane and Toews bridge deals were $6.5 million at the time the cap was lower. I would think Eichel would get more than that. Risto is going to break out and could get something similar. Ennis playing with Kane and Eichel is going to get paid. Girgensons is looking at a 3 year 12 million contract so he would be due for a raise. Reinhart could be looking at a 3 year $15 million contract.

$7 million for Eichel
$6.5 for Risto
$6.5 Ennis
$4.0 for Girgensons
$5.0 for Reinhart

That's $29 million and I am being pretty conservative for Girgensons and Reinhart. It's a great problem to have IMO but it also makes me nervous about throwing out a huge contract via FA to a guy like Yandle.

Moulson would still be on the books unless he is traded. Sure Gionta and Gorges comes off. But they you have Kane and Bogosian making a little over $5 million each with both being do for a raise at that time.

That's $40 million. Without the raise for Kane. Figure the goalies take up $7 million you're at $47 million. Yandle on the open market is going to get $7.5 easily that's $54 million. Add in Moulson unless he is traded you're at $59 million. So you have $16 million to sign:

Kane Eichel Ennis
Moulson Reinhart Girgensons
? ? ?
? ? ?

Risto Yandle
Bogosian ?
? ?

9 guys with about $1.77 million available for each remaining player. It's doable of course you need to draft and develop really well.

Yandle?
No thanks. Not at that price. Granted, the Rangers were deep on defense, but he was on their 3rd pair.
Too much $$$ for a 2nd pair guy at best

At best? What does that make Bogosian, a 7th d? He's really good, not elite but i'd say he's top pairing.

If Eichel is as good as we hope there is no way he signs a $4 million bridge deal. Look at my edit. Kane and Toews signed matching $6.5 million deals when the cap was lower. Eichel will get more
- Stripes77

Subban signed a pretty small bridge deal when he was a budding star, same with Johansen.

Kane and Toews won a cup before they signed their deals, so I think that's part of the reason they were so big

Staal is incredibly over rated.

I don't care how great your possession is, when it never amounts to anything on the score sheet.

6 mil for a guy on pace for 11 goals over a full season.

I don't believe a guy as average defensively as Yandle should ever be considered a top pair guy, no matter how good he is offensively
And his offensive numbers are far from elite the last couple years too
Plus...
How old is he when he's a free agent?
And we would prob have to sign him for at least 5yrs at 7mil or more?
That just doesn't make sense to me

I have friends in NYC that think the rangers will trade Nash BC of his lack of playoff scoring & their Cap issues

52 pts this year, he's not in elite company or anything but he has what we need. I'd prefer a younger option too just threw the name out there because it might be a possibility.

52 points and 53 points the last two seasons. Without looking I'd guess that's top 5 in defensive scoring each year

He's prob a good #2 on most teams
Like u bring up a lot, his production is lower BC of being on such a bad team & would improve with more around him
All that said,
Reinhart is our #2, Girgensons our #3...
I don't see how trading for him makes sense?
I'd pass
I could see the Leafs go after him

I think a lot of that has to do with the quality of his team at the moment. That being said i wouldn't want to fork over the assets that the canes would want.

Good, but not elite
Can't pay a guy that age that much money for that long
Esp when he's not that good in his own end
If he's 3rd pair on NYR,
Why does anyone think it'd be a good idea to hve him 1st pair here?

I'd just prefer we looked to other options

A $6 mil center should be increasing the production of the guys around him, I get he's used in a defensive role, but he also gets ample minutes in the power play

I hear, just would prefer something else

As far as who we should go after from the Hawks...
Shaw is a guy I think could be had
Reminds me of when Laad was buried in their depth chart & blossomed in a bigger role for the Winnipeg

We need a good left handed #2 with offensive upside. He fits that bill. He'd easily be our best defensemen until Ristolainen developes.

He scored 50 points on the Yotes this year...

I could see arguments both ways
Not sure what they'd want for him?
At first glance I'd say Ennis +
But they already have similar guys in Hagelin & Zuccharello
My guess is they'd want Girgensons +

If Eichel lives up to his hype he will end up producing near a PPG just like Kane. Not a chance he signs cheaper than $6.5 per even on a bridge deal.

I'm not saying he sucks or anything
And u keep bringing up his offense, and ignoring his average defense and that he'll get a 7yr, 7mil per deal
Too much & too long for me

All adds up to me preferring to look elsewhere

If he wasn't going to be 30 by the time he hits FA I would be all for it. In this case his age keeps me away.

I'm not ignoring anything. He's a pretty good player that is only 28 years old.

I'd sign him in a heartbeat to play with Ristolainen. I don't think he's getting 7 million either

For me...

On the + side
-his offense

On the - side
-his defense
-his age
-length & amount the deal would have to be

Too many major things on the - side for me

If he hits free agency? He will absolutely get $7 million. Teams will be lining up like they did for Brad Richards. If he didn't reach free agency I would agree with you. He would probably sign an 8 year deal averaging around 6 million per.

He's 28 now. He'll be 30 his 1st season with us
If u can get him for 5mil for 4years...
That's another story
But I'd be shocked if he signs a deal that small
