Is it possible that the contract structure was different as far as compensation goes? Honestly I think they're pretty stupid for not taking a pick from Jersey if that were not the case. They could have packaged them(yours and NJ's)with something else to move up. All about assets in todays NHL.

The money doesn't come off the books if Murray says thanks but no thanks if Pittsburgh demands a third round pick as compensation.

I really don't think Murray would let that be a stumbling block if this is the guy he really wants but it is an option.

And again, I have no issue with Pittsburgh playing by the rules and asking for compensation. My problem is with the rule. It is a dumb rule.

I see them as coming close to the playoffs this year... and then making them next year and possibly winning a series. Then after that for sure making the playoffs and winning at least a series.

That's what I said in the first place, but SF-365 pointed out Baptiste. I see both sides of it, but a 3rd rounder is a pretty big crap shoot so I wouldn't lose sleep over giving one up. Especially when you consider how many guys we've drafted over the past few years.

I dont know why they didnt ask from NJ, but it looks like "hey we might have screwed that up but buffalo is ripe for snagging a pick from"

If bylsma is murrays guy and this is what it takes then it is what it is. I think the NHL will change the rule soon enough.

I wont ever understand the "logic" behind feeling entitled to compensation for something you dont want. I scrapped metal for two summers a few years back and had anyone told me "5 bucks for that broken section of fence i put at the curb with the intention of being taken by the garbage men" i would have laughed, paused, asked if they were serious, and said thanks but no thanks

You offer sheet Toffoli and Martin Jones at the same time for the same money, that way you only have one penalty. They either match on one and we get the other, or they sign Justin Williams and we get both. Im all about this plan

I think that adding Eichel, Kane, Reinhart, Pysyk (full time), No Meszaros, No Benoit, a full year of Bogo, a healthy Girgensons, and a healthy Gorges can add 30 points.
