The legacy IS important. Are these guys as good as Detroit from 1995-2002? Or are they more like Colorado (which is still good) from 1995-2002? A third Cup, and I think they are as good or better than Detroit during that time since they live in a salary cap world. |

Quotes not working, but to JJ's point about game 7 being a defining game in terms of the Hawks' legacy - I heard Milbury's comment, and thought this then:
This is probably (hopefully?) not the end of the run - may be a pause next year and the year after, but it seems they're set up for runs at another couple of Cups.
Toews, Kane, Saad, Shaw, Kruger, Hjalmarsson should be good for several more years; Keith, Seabrook should have at least a couple left; TT looks like he should have a decade of very good play; Baun, Paliotta, Pokka, Johns, Panera, Hartman could (COULD) be good contributors in a year or two or three; some others lower down in the "system"....
If Bowman can fill in some needed spaces - and where some of the young prospects miss - they could be annual contendors certainly thru the end of the decade. - StLBravesFan
Certainly like our chances but lots of assumptions in there. Need to find $ for Seabs which is a must in my mind. And the kids need to perform and develop which some may not. Plus all the coming offseason moves is a crap shoot at this point. Here is to a significant increase in the cap in the next 3 years. |

What does anyone think about locking down Saad with a 6 year, $24 mil deal?
- FourFeathers773
Too long for too little.
If for that long, my guess is you won't get him for less than $36MM.
If for $24MM, you won't get him for more than 3 or 4 years. - StLBravesFan
I'd tend to agree it will take more than $4mil per. I was thinking $5mil would be the starting point if he signed a 5 year deal.

Lets talk about how tired the big lumbering players for the Ducks look right now. If not physically exhausted then certainly mentally. Getzlaf in particular is looking slower and slower as the games wear on. That aggressive forecheck is really coming to full circle.
Referees were abhorrent. Lot of crap after the whistle, lot of blatant interference. Ridiculous is really the only word.
Keith has been the best overall defender in the NHL since Lindstrom retired. Hopefully more Hawks fans come to realize that he is a generational talent and a very special player to watch.
Lot of seams continued to open up and the Hawks made them pay. With the opportunities they had they could have scored 7 or 8. Gotta feel good about Saturday. |

He certainly looks winded. Now, the extra day rest will help although travelling will take something out of the body.
For all the talk that hits take it's toll on the hitee, eventually, a 215 pound guy will get tired when he's chasing a 185 pound guy that can skate faster. I do think the hitting is having an effect on the Ducks.

My guess is that Saad gets 3 years at $13.5 million. |

He is a very good hockey player, but one hopes he develops further into a Hossa-type player. If he takes this deal and succeeds, then three years down the line he is making Hossa-type money, deservedly.
The detractors will argue it's just his linemates... As Mike Babcock once said in response to the question about who was the best forward on Canada's team: "Whoever is playing with Toews."

I might get chastised for saying this, but Perry has really done nothing the last few games. Sure, he is a good netfront presence, but outside of standing there making contact with pucks being shot in his direction, he hasnt done or created much.
He has been maintaining possession on the cycles, but thats it. No legit scoring chances, no setting up teammates, no near misses.
He has just been protecting the puck but CHI has done an excellent job keeping Perry away from the net when he has the puck lately.
The issue is still keeping him out of Crawfords view and tying him up when shots come from the point |

3 Capgeek type sites, @capfriendly, @hockeyscap, @generalfanager. If Saad gets 4mil, we would have 63mil spent on 11 players, needing a roster of 23, and cap of 71mil. Am I close? |

Here's a useless stat but hopefully karma (ala Justin Williams Game 7 magic):
Per Boomer Gordon, Brad Richards undefeated in Game 7's. |

Ennis got more than that last offseason. If I were Saad, I'd fire my agent if he didn't get me more. |

Like that. And let's tip the cap to StanBow as he's been really good this postseason. |

I posted this in yesterday's thread just as a rough figure of things:
Shooting from the hip and just plugging in a few pieces (assuming Sharp and Bickell are cap casualties):
Forwards: Panarin, Toews, Hossa, Saad, Teravainen, Kane, Versteeg, Kruger, Shaw, Desjardins, Danault, McNeill, Nordstrom
Defensemen: Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, TvR, Johns
Goalie: Crawford, Darling
I figured in raises for Saad ($4.5 million), Kruger ($2.5 million), Desjardins ($0.850), and Nordstrom ($0.850).
With a cap ceiling at $71 million, there should be roughly $4.6 million left in cap space to sign 2 defensemen and 1 forward to complete a roster of 23.
Make what you will of it. |

Saad coming off his ELC though, Ennis came off his bridge deal at $2.813 mil per
big difference |

As much as people hate on him, I really think you see Rundblad resigned. As a qualifying offer he'd get $913,500 a year.

And Nordstrom's qualifying offer is $630k. Offer is based on actual salary minus any bonuses. |

That's assuming they trade Bickell and Sharp (or whomever) for picks. That's a big "if" given how our previous cap issues have gone. No one will want to do the Hawks any favors, especially if they win a Cup... |

I'm surprised you have Versteeg still there. My gut says he ends up wherever Sharp or Crawford are traded to as a salary cap lump in. Dare I say, Sharp and Versteeg (back) to Florida? |

Great overall effort.
1. Bickel best hitting game so far...great energy
2. Shaw at his hard working, grinding best.
3. REALLY impressed by Saad last 3-4 games, over the last year or two you really see the Hossa influence on his great development.
4. Keith is not human.....incredible
5. Crawford solid third period saves when needed
6. Toews, Vermette face off domination
7. Kane is Superman
Even the #5 and #6 D-man were not harmful....
C'mon Saturday, no letdowns then boys....bring it on!!! - hawk35
I noticed this yesterday as the Hawks seemed to be winning every draw, much like game 4. But in game 5, the draws were decidedly in Anaheim's favor, with the same matchups. I'm starting to think that home ice second stick down has a lot to do with these faceoff numbers in this series and that causes me a bit of concern when it comes to a road game 7. |

Again, I'm not debating that. More than likely, you're correct about that. Just throwing it out there as a rough figure of things cap-wise, that's all. |
