I'm not a Deboer hater, I think he will be good for your team. But be careful putting too much stock in that article. Of course Zubrus loves Deboer, he's the only coach on the planet who would take an old, soft, big man with 10 points and continue to give him top line minutes. The same can be said in triplicate for Steve Bernier.

We will even give them the rights to Pete Harrold to get that done.

After watching the DeBoer interview, it seems like he is saying the right things. Actions are louder than words but i like his approach. Some main points i like are below:

-Addressed defense as a mental state. He basically said it is not a sometimes thing but rather an all the time thing. The way he wants to play good defense is to have great puck possession and pressure off the puck. He called himself a pressure coach.

-Has coached Jumbo and patty 17 years ago and achieved a junior championship. Coached burns recently. Also referenced coming into coaching New Jersey where they underachieved for many years. They had many veterans but also many young players to. Adam Henrique that year was a beast.

-That day one its about putting in a system that will address there identity. Not worried about end goal because you need to play a certain way in order to win period.
Also has an earn it approach.

There is no proof that DeBoer will be a great coach but its not like he has had the best talent and most stable situations to succeed in. His teams have not have the top end talent San Jose possesses with Jumbo, Pavs, Couture, Burns, Vlasic, and Marleau. Bounce back years out of Hertl, Nieto, and Braun would help. Young guys like Dillon, Mueller, Tierney, Wingles, Smith, Melker, and Goodrow who can provide quality depth. Plus young guys still who have yet to play but have good potential in Goldolbin and Demelo of being contributors in the nhl this year. I might be missing guys out of this equation but in general, this team has a lot of pieces.

They still need another quality Defensemen in the top 4 and maybe a depth guy too. The bottom 6 could use a quality player and top 6. Goaltending needs help in order to have any success.

Guys that could be good fits (not a complete list) are:

Top 4 D:
Jeff Petry
Mike Green
Paul Martin
Bryce Salvador

Top 6 D:
Francois Beauchemin
Adam McQuaid
Zybnek Michalek

Top 6 F:
Micheal Frolik
Michael Ryder
Chris Stewart

Bottom 6 F:
Antoine Vermette
Joel Ward
Torrey Mitchell

And Goalie but there is so many ways DW can go with it

Well the press conference got me very DeBoered quickly. *rimshot*

All in all I really have not looked much at Deboer or know his coaching style, he didn't sound too exciting while talking. Then again Sutter sounds like a drunk when he talks so can't judge them on how they speak.

I'm getting a little jumpy and excited for more Sharks news...I think the hockey depression I had from this crappy season is wearing off.

I'm glad your hockey depression is ending.

But your right can't judge until we see him in action. I'm just going be really curious to see who he brings in as his assistants.

You're just a hater bro........i think whoever was brought in as a coach you would've complained about................why don't we wait until he coaches some games before we start ripping on DeBoer.
- SJSharks39

Agreed on DeBoer, but the guy's damn near spot on about Wilson....

Here's to hoping he's on a short-ass leash this season...

DW has this big plan in his head, a plan that fans are buying into now that we missed the playoffs, that we are going to stay a young and developing team for at least two more seasons (based on current roster and DW's normal free agency scheme, which is "do nothing and like it, fans").
- mxgsfmdpx

This whole thing with DW has been very confusing and it seems like he has sent mixed messages. But if you don't read between the lines and take what DW says at face value, you'll realize he never said he wanted a long 3-4 season rebuild. He said he wanted it to be quick, maybe even less than 2 seasons. There was a great Fear The Fin article explains all this (let me know if you want me to dig it up). DeBoer fits the strategy DW has talked about all along, namely taking a small step back, developing a youth movement and quickly becoming competitive again.

Petry & Green likely to get overpaid by someone other than the Sharks. Paul Martin not a bad add if he can stay healthy, Salvador turns 40 in Feb., walk away swiftly. I like Z & McQuaid, but McQuaid said he wants to stay in Boston. They still have some cap issues, so maybe he can be had with the right deal. I think Z would be a good pickup.

Of the forwards you listed, Joel Ward would be the best add, imho. I'd rather see a return of Winnik than Mitchell though.

Ya I'd do a package for Lehner+ although might not be trading that guy. Especially if Bishop wins tonight I'd be terrified to trade him. Lehner is > then Bishop. Bishop just had health and opportunity

No to Martin & Ward got to stay away from the older guys past their prime. Mcqaid's cool but if we resign Fedun then i don't think we need a right handed blueliner. We need a lefty though & staying with Boston Bartkowski also a good one.

Yup Remparts won the first matchup 4-3 when their goaltender stole the game. However Rockets have 2 days rest this time and this will be the Remparts third game in 3 nights. Let's see if the Rockets can come out with some more energy early/late in the game.

I think that's a step back in the right direction for you brotha! I realize you have the experiences you have with your friend who is a Devils fan. I live on the East coast so I do see a lot of Eastern Time Zone games because I have to stay up until 1AM to watch the Sharks. Deboer did do something things that were head scratchers. Every coach does...if we're looking for perfection then even Bowman would let us down. I think that Deboer is fair, I think he's going to feel secure with this job. (That's important McLellan started his crazy line juggling because he was playing for his job every night)

So, he has a vested stake in our future. Let's see how it goes. I'm excited for the Sharks, and I think the assistant coaches and staff will make all the difference in the world. I'm a big fan of good PKs. I loved being on the PK when I played hockey, and I hope that his pressure system will be better than McLellan's stand back and wait PK approach.
