He is one of the highest scoring wingers in the league year in and year out. He has never played with an elite center, you dont think that his hindered the leafs success at all? Kessel is a very important piece to a team who has an elite center like JT. We dont have that and wont for a while, therefor no need to keep Kessel. We move him in hopes of being bad enough to draft a center of that calibre

Why is the most logical landing spot for Kessel is a non PO team?
No one is devaluing Kessel ability, its the contract that hard to fit for 7 more yrs...

The biggest problem is that the position of wing is the easiest to trade for, and the last to build around. He's got elite skills, but with no D, inconsistent G and no top C, having a guy like Kessel around is like having a Ferrari but not having a license to drive...

Well he fetched Colborne(we failed), a 2nd traded for liles(we failed) and a 5th(we failed). We got a massive return but we failed and Kaberle helped Boston win a cup. The point was he was another leaf devalued because he was a leaf.

Thing is, do you really want to tear it all down to nothing? Because it is a very very long road back. I do think you need to change the character of the team more than anything else. Not even Babcock is going to turn things around if you keep the guys who don't care. I see Kessel and dion as two major problems, that's why I don't want Kessel. I'm not saying he isn't talented, but players who don't care will drag down the entire team.
