Ok, i would love to see Saad in a Pens uniform, but this writer is idiotic if he thinks GMJR can do a 1 year, 2 Million contract and a) expect Saad to sign it, and b)If he did, not think the Blackhawks wouldn't match it in a heartbeat.

Saad is a player I'd offer sheet. I don't think we have the picks to give up if he accepted

That writer is a complete moron. Pens can't even send that offer sheet since they don't have their 2nd rounder in 2016. You can read through the comments of people calling him out on his ignorance. It's hilarious.

I do not understand the logic of 'ridding' ourselves the contracts of 3 current NHL forwards then signing a top winger which we need with the 3 contracts. Who will fill the role of the 3 players we're getting rid of? You need to specify for clarity who is replacing these guys?

You're not the only 1, but it's nonsense making that kind of comment without expanding the replacements - market is not good this year, & who will trade us what for those players?

I've happily gone into it plenty of times. Since it wasn't the subject of that already long enough post I didn't think it was necessary to expand on how to replace three over paied bottom six forwards with more cost-effective players and who potential trade or FA targets can be. I and others have discussed it into the ground and there's not much more to say on the subject, but let me tell you, there's plenty of wingers out there that can play third line minutes without being paid almost 4 mil a year (Kunitz) or play fourth line minutes that aren't being paid 2.2 (Spaling). Hell we even have some of those guys in WBS.

Saying it's not smart to get rid of forwards because we don't have depth there misses the point. We don't have depth at top six forward. Bottom six forwards are easy to come across, so if packaging some of our bottom six guys like Kunitz and Sutter with other assets brings back a top 6 you do it. And Spaling and Kunitz's contracts are just flat out bad, which as a cap ceiling team we can't afford especially when we have Scuderi's untradeable ass on the roster.

Yes I get what you're saying but so many times (as I said it's not just your post), people throw out there these comments to rid ourselves of these 'bad' contracts without actually filling our roster back up. Like the Geno trades there's only 1 that I've seen that actually names a team that might realistically do it - even then the Habs probably not. Times are changing & more teams have expensive 3rd line options & are running all 4 lines. Way of the future? We filled the bottom 6 with those dime a dozen players this year that are out there & everyone whinged about it.
