Chia painted himself into a corner, them missing the playoffs was the tipping point, but you cant give every freaking member of the team a NMC, 16 players doesn't constitute a "core", trading boychuk is looking to be one of the worst trades since some dumbass traded for Raycroft. There was no reason to resign smith when they did, Its pretty much obvious that someone had to go, Chia so mismanaged the cap its on him.
As far as players, first two I'd get rid of is Chara and Krejki, I think Chara will be a better player next year with more recovery time for his knee, and he still is respected around the league for a decent return. Krej is overpaid for a guy who half asses his way through the regular season, and last season proves he's replaceable.
by the way, if one more person says they scored more points than any team in history that didn't make the playoffs i'm gonna reach through my computer and smack them. - 77emac77
Well they didn't score more points... they had more points in the standings... as in 96 points this year. Why would you want to reach through your computer to smack someone for saying that? Because you don't want to hear that they're not as bad as everyone is making it out to be? I do agree with J.I. Jr, they aren't anywhere near the level of Anaheim, Chicago, Tampa or the Rangers... but we're not exactly in a Toronto situation either.

It was pointed out in another thread, but I will repeat it.
Boston was the 9th youngest team in the league this year, and only 4 teams who were younger made the playoffs. Everyone who keeps calling Boston old, check the stats. Our top 6 are all younger than 30 Bergeron, Krejci, Lucic, Marchand, Erikson, Smith (Not that I condone him being in the top 6) Not to mention Spoons and Pasta. And half the defenders are barely out of highschool. - Videoj

Cause I cant get the image of Dan Douquette outta my head saying his team that didnt make the playoffs spent more days in first place than any other team in the league.
Bottom line.. not enough. You're trying to say it was a good effort. It wasnt. If Pittsburg didnt nose dive at the end of the year it wouldnt have been a race. How many late goals led to overtime losses. Big freaking whooooopidydoo, they give out points like candy. there is no achievement there. Its not like when the Patriots went 11 - 5 and didnt make the playoffs. How many games last year did you see a full 60 minute effort? Not many. they dont deserve a pat on the back for their points. They missed the playoffs, bottom line. Its because they are better I'm so upset. thank god they're not Toronto, but I'll bet the folks in Toronto are more hopefull for their team next year than the folks in Boston. |

Well time to get my long post for the year out of the way.
To be fair, Chia has been absolutely abysmal at drafting. He came on board in 2006, and immediately picked up Kessel, Lucic and Marchand.
Thanks for reading! - dothedougie
Chia still worked for Ottawa when those pics were made.

Point 1. Chara and Seidenberg are 2 of the 3 top two D-men on the team. Fact.
What are the odds they both come back next season and the season after and play like top end talent? 50/50 at best?
That's a serious problem when to win the Cup you need to beat the Ducks, Hawks, Lightning, Rags, etc.
The trend in the NHL is fast paced hockey that is always attacking, heavy forechecking, odd man rushes off of counterattacks and speed, speed, speed. AND THEN to top it all off these teams play big, heavy hockey. Even Tampa plays physical and they are not considered a big team.
If we have top pairing guys that are likely incapable of defending against that style we have a problem.
Point 2. What does it say about our team that we are soooo sloooow that everyone in the league thinks we are a bunch of old guys? |
