Are you saying that the Boston media is not happy with the fact that Chiarelli got fired? If so, that is the exact opposite of what is happening.

Again, I think it's worth pointing out that the team is really not in that bad of a place. We missed the playoffs by one game. We set a record for most points without making the playoffs. We don't have to sell off the whole team. You're basically talking complete rebuild, and that is certainly not necessary.

D.J. bean and WEEI....Haggerty and CSNNE......ESPN and McDonald......

Most of what I hear is that he should have been been given another year to dig himself out of it.
OR
They only missed the playoffs once since he has been here and this isn't fair.
Blah, blah, blah.

And if people think that trading Kelly and/or Ericksson and/or Seidenberg is all we to need to do to be a contender next year then that is crazy talk.

After we sign Hamilton and spooner and Connolly we have ZERO money left to even sign a back-up goalie.

Ugh.

After watching Tampa, Chicago, and Anaheim.......this Bs team is nowhere near as good as them. Those teams are so fun to watch and attack attack attack! Even the Rags are a much better team than the Bs.

So how we can go into next year with the same team that is relying on top guy that are getting older and the teams I just mentioned are in many ways getting younger and better. We are screwed if we don't move some pieces.

Chia painted himself into a corner, them missing the playoffs was the tipping point, but you cant give every freaking member of the team a NMC, 16 players doesn't constitute a "core", trading boychuk is looking to be one of the worst trades since some dumbass traded for Raycroft. There was no reason to resign smith when they did, Its pretty much obvious that someone had to go, Chia so mismanaged the cap its on him.
As far as players, first two I'd get rid of is Chara and Krejki, I think Chara will be a better player next year with more recovery time for his knee, and he still is respected around the league for a decent return. Krej is overpaid for a guy who half asses his way through the regular season, and last season proves he's replaceable.

by the way, if one more person says they scored more points than any team in history that didn't make the playoffs i'm gonna reach through my computer and smack them.

Also the drafting, how do you screw up so many first round picks?!?!

You don't need to persuade me about Chia. And in fact I wish they would just cut ties with CJ as well.

Watching these final four teams.......it is simple to see where the league is going! Trying to play the silly slow laid back style is like back to the future with the Devils trap. It's old outdated and we need to adapt.

"If" we don't make some major moves this off season we are even older and slower next year AND we likely lose Lucic for nothing and probably let Ericksson walk too.

How can that be a good thing, especially with a farm that is pretty dry?

Bad drafting was a day of life ere before Chiarelli,.. remember Max Suave, Tommy Cross, Jordan Caron and Zach Hamill where all drafted before chia came on board.

Chia Pet signed with the Bs as there GM on May 26, 2006.

2007 - 6 total picks 20gp total between them all.
1st Hamill
2nd Cross

2008 - 6 picks total 203gp (Colburne has played 160)
1st Colburne
2nd Sauve

2009 - 5 picks total 174gp (Caron played 153)
1st Caron
3rd Button

These three years of ZERO talent are what the Bs are suffering from right now. And these are all Chia Pet.

It was pointed out in another thread, but I will repeat it.

Boston was the 9th youngest team in the league this year, and only 4 teams who were younger made the playoffs. Everyone who keeps calling Boston old, check the stats. Our top 6 are all younger than 30 Bergeron, Krejci, Lucic, Marchand, Erikson, Smith (Not that I condone him being in the top 6) Not to mention Spoons and Pasta. And half the defenders are barely out of highschool.

Well time to get my long post for the year out of the way.

To be fair, Chia has been absolutely abysmal at drafting. He came on board in 2006, and immediately picked up Kessel, Lucic and Marchand.

The next year our first round pick was Hamill, second rounder was tommy cross. (quick fun fact, no player we drafted at the 2007 draft played any sort of roll for the Bruins.)

2008 was much of the same, we drafted Colborne and Max Sauve. Colborne is just now making an impact with his third club in calgary i believe as a 3rd line center. Max sauve was a dud. The one decent player we took in '08 was Michael Hutchinson. And you guessed it, we let him walk last year and he ended up doing semi-decent things for the jets.

2009 I think could be considered the worst. Not only did we absolutely waste our first round pick on Jordan Caron, but we held on to him for WAAAAYYYYYY too long. In '09 we did take Lane MacDermid who was a marginal pile of poop at best.

2010 was the best year for our drafting under Chia from deep drafting perspective. Not sure if it was some lucky guessing, or if Chia actually decided to put some work in this year. We took Seguin (obviously), then Jared knight (another pile of crap), but then proceeded to take Spooner, Cunningham (who i thought would make an excellent 4th line center if we could have moved Kelly), Florek (AHLer with size, probably wont play much in NHL though) Zane McIntyre (very promising goalie) in the 6th round and Trotman in the 7th round.

2011, Dougie ( ) and Koko in the first and second rounds, and Ferlin in the 4th round. This is year was ok. Anthony Camara is a toss up, he hasnt showed much but theres always the hope he can do something. (sounds like another caron to me, but at least he wasnt a first round pick). No promising deep round picks as of right now.

2012- Subban (the next starter, or potential trade bait, who knows???) Matthew Grzelcyk in the third round( looked pretty good in the frozen four this year) Seth Griffith in the fifth round. Then we decided to make a "favor pick" and take matthew benning, nephew of at the time assistant gm jim benning, in the sixth round. Just a waste of a pick there.

2013- No first rounder because we decided to go with Jagr after being shunned by Iginla. 2nd round pick linus arnesson, not a real head turner there. 3rd round pick petr cehlarik might do good things in a few years, maybe. the rest of this draft is Meh.

2014- we got the pasta, which was a really good find that late in the first round. Donato in the second round I personally have mixed feelings about, the rest of this draft is a bit early to tell where it is going.

All in all, I would rate Chia's drafting poor at the very best. I understand that not every draft pick will turn out, but some of these guys are just aweful. I would consider a GM's drafting in the 'good' range if 50% or more of your draft picks at least can come in at some point and make contributions at the AHL level, with 3 out of every 10 making NHL contributions at some point. Chia is nowhere near that, and has showed that he loves to gamble on players in the first round that are high risk high reward. This also contributes to the lack of talent we have in providence and why we have to reach out to other organizations to get better players so much.

Maybe our development down in providence is flawed, maybe I'm being too harsh, but something about our drafting strategy has to change.

Thanks for reading!
