And in your mind averaging more than a point per game is vanishing?
- Sabresfan-365

and that point per game as you say with the loaded team they usually have has gotten them how many cups ? A point a game with 2 of the best players in the game is unacceptable in the playoffs and that is why they are golfing yet again.

No one is good enough. Matt Ellis seems like the best option.

No but wouldn't mind seeing Disco Dan behind the bench.

Babcock has also had a huge role in developing young talent in Detroit, and put a ton of players in a place to succeed.

Another knock on Bylsma is that he hasn't been able to do that

- sbroads24

What young talent did you want Bylsma to develop? Shero traded it all away.

With how Shero has traded away picks for veterans, the highlighted bold makes more sense.

I trust whoever TM decides on. Happy we are not paying over 6m for one. Leafs can keep him.

Detroit traded a ton away too don't forget.

Yet guys like Nyquist, Tatar, Abdelkader, Helm, Flipulla,Hudler all were developed quite nicely.

Is that Blashill more so than Babcock?

Stars are doing there part, they're not the reason pitt has underachieved. A combination of poor managment/injuries and yes, coaching.

It's not all bylsma's fault, but he's by no means exempt from any blame.

Tim Murray likes him therefore he's infallible

I'd say it's both. Babcock has a knack for putting players in the best spots to succeed, and waiting until they are ready for bigger roles.

So if he decides on SJ or NJ instead of here does he suddenly suck all of a sudden?

Being in the babcock chase and missing out has everyone wanting a "big name". That kind of mentality makes you pass over some really good, smart coaches.

Pretty much. I'd rather go with a guy who looks like he could be a great coach

I think a bigger question here is how does Shero have another job. This list is just awful.

I would take my chances as well.

The guy they hire now doesn't have to be the guy who leads them to the cup (in fact at this stage it usually isn't).

No, but IMO he should get very little. MAF and his sub .900 sv%, Lack of any credible forward depth
And Shero inability to add pieces or draft are at the top for me

As a pens fan this was the complaint for years.... 1) addicted to his system and refused to change even when it was not working (Rangers series 2013) 2) woeked very poorly with most of the Pens young players... Lovejoy... Letestu... Despres... Bennett... Maatta was the one exception.... I would pass if I was Buffalo

BTW Fleury has been outstanding the last two seasons in the playoffs... can we get off the Fleury sucks nonsense.... He had a few bad playoff series.... He also won a cup and nearly a second in 08

Pittsburgh has 3 solid d prospects in Pouliot, Harrington and Dumo... They have 2 solid forward prospects in Kapenen and Sunqvist... and 2 solid Goalie prospects in Murray and Jarry.... Pens fans wine to much... the system is not as bare as they claim (overreacting)

No doubt he was bad but I wonder how much of that had to do with Bylsma and his wide open style.

Gretz made it sound like he couldn't be bothered to work on defense, which is great for entertainment purposes but not so much for a young team that desperately needs to work on that area of the game.

I always thought he was pretty mediocre. I remember when the media sucked him off for a few years after their cup win as the best GM in hockey

already been said, I think, but my guess is if GMTM gets a whiff of "didnt listen to ownership or the general manager" and "refused to change his system for more than a game or two" and "preferred unskilled veterans to skilled younger players" he will flashback to LaFontaine and Nolan, blink a few times behind those thick beady eyed lenses, and say:

FAAAAACCCKKK NOOOO.

Which brings us back to Bylsma's teams never over achieving, something that if you are a great coach, you can get your team to do.

He isn't all to blame at all, but for a big name coach with a cup, he seems quite average

When a goalie has a sub .900 save percentage in the playoffs there isn't much a coach can do unless he is playing 5 forwards on the ice at all times.

Are we really sitting here knocking a guy that has a system and isn't quick to make adjustments after coming from a guy who didn't have a system and a guy who had a pee wee system? When your system is the reason you have had the success in the regular season it would be hard to make adjustments on the fly.

Every coach has had issues where they aren't fast enough to make adjustments even the best ones. Hell Q is about to get knocked out of the playoffs are we saying he is a bad coach now?

You don't need a great coach to win in this league you need great players. You do need a good coach and I think Bylsma would do just fine here.
