No support whatsoever in TO in terms of D partners or goaltending and he still put up 30+ pts per season. Not utilized properly in NSH at all with little to no PP time and TOI down under 15min/game. He's a big hitter, right hand shot that can work the PP. Sedins have been dying for a right hand shot PP guy since Salo (and Ehrhoff) left so I can see why mngt may look at Franson if the price is right.

He's probably gonna want north of 5.5 anyway and Benning said they won't be looking much at FA Dmen over 5mil. But I can totally understand why they might look at him. He hasn't been utilized properly in TO and NSH and on the PP with the Sedins may flourish.

Maybe I am painting with too broad a stroke (it is Tuesday though, so..), but we have so many guys that can compliment good players but can't really carry the load. You put them with good players and they look good.

Anyone with a good right handed shot on defence would look good with the Sedins on the pp. IF it is a pp specialist we are looking for, Weber may fit the bill as long as he doesn't get too greedy.

Calgary had a bunch of offence from their backend, they don't really have a big physical guy back there. Do they?

Edit: Smid is probably their most physical guy and he's a 3.5 million dollar a year version of Sbisa.

I don't care if he's a big body or has a mean streak it doesn't mean you give up a potential top 6 forward or a defence men that will undoubtedly end up being better then Brenden Dillon. You can go find a tough D anywhere. We need tough forwards not tough D.

If you can find them anywhere why haven we had one since Willie Mitchel

Doesn't mean you give up a first in a deep draft.
- manvanfan

Yeah we would hate to miss out on Brandon Carlo or Nicholas Meloche with that 23 Rd pick

I agree to an extent, I do think Franson has a unique skillset that the Canucks are lacking( Offensive, Hitting, RH shot) but his price tag will never equal his contributions imo.

There are very few D out there who get 200+ hits and 30 + points consistently, and that is why he will be paid regardless if he is a legit top 4 D.

If you could move Miller's contract without retaining salary, is there many players in the UFA market that will be worth that 5-6 million dollar figure?

Green, Martin, Petry, Sekara might all be in that same range and all have their warts as well. Green has likely the best skillset but has health and defensive issues, Martin is 34 and declining, Petry/Sekara have the offensive tools but are not physical.

I'm not saying that I take Franson over any of those guys necessarily but they will all get 5-6 imo this off-season and all have question marks as well.

Canucks very likely will take a step back next year, I actually thought they took a step back this year but were so unlucky and poorly coached the previous year it looked like an improvement.

Unfortunatly I think Mgmt has made it very clear they are not willing to take a step back and we will see moves that are detrimental to the future of the club but might help maintain the status quo for a couple of more seasons.

Something that they do not have full control over. When the core gets old, it gets old, there aren't any players out there to replace the Sedins whether they like it or not. When they leave, it's gonna be a huge wake up call for the fans and the organization.

As in…a major step back!!

In all seriousness, what do you guys think it would take to get LD out of EDm or SR out of Buff? Both may be acquirable from either team as they have Mcdavid and Eichel.
