Calgary had a bunch of offence from their backend, they don't really have a big physical guy back there. Do they?
- LeftCoaster

They sure had their way with Vancouver's defence (physically), embarrassing.

Their defence had their way with our defence? We need both physicality & way more offence from our defensemen.

Edit: Smid is probably their most physical guy and he's a 3.5 million dollar a year version of Sbisa.

Engelland, but Calgary didn't beat us because their D was more physical. They beat us because they were faster and more skilled.

Three of Calgary's regular season top scorers were dmen who all had more than 40 points. We need more offence from back there.

I'm with Vantel on Brendan Dillon, not fussy about giving up a first but he's the kind of guy you need back there. Big body, mean streak, and from New West.
- VanHockeyGuy

I don't care if he's a big body or has a mean streak it doesn't mean you give up a potential top 6 forward or a defence men that will undoubtedly end up being better then Brenden Dillon. You can go find a tough D anywhere. We need tough forwards not tough D.

There is zero physicality, until they fix that you can forget about playoff success.

The Canucks need a dozen things before they have playoff success. We're not even close right now.

No we are not. The D needs to get blown up. I would trade any one of our starting D.

I like the sentiment, but it's not that easy to construct a backend out of thin air, other GM's aren't going to give you away a top pairing guy.

Why is his name brought up? sharks just traded for him. We are starting to sound like leafs fans, just because he's from here he'd want to play here....

For what though, a bunch of guys who run around and hit people. How many times did you see Nick Lidstrom go smash somebody? To be a good D, you need to be smart. Duncan Keith is awesome and how many people does he hit?

Doesn't mean you give up a first in a deep draft.

What we have there isn't working. Top pairing D comes with a price, if it fits the profile you want and will help right the ship, pay it.

We need more physicality from the d.
We need more offense from the d.

We need more physicality from the forwards on the fore check.

Running around in our own zone, we need some checking to help break up the opposing teams cycle.

We need guys that will clear the front of the net instead of losing position and then trying to play goalie.

It is either you add the players that bring a more physical game or you get players that are skilled and have speed to control the play. If we get forwards that have speed to pressure the dmen, maybe they don't have to be that physical, but they can't be afraid to go into the corners and retrieve the puck either.

Our team was faster a few years ago. A bit of both styles would be nice and we are lacking in just about every area.

So you get rid of an older guy who scores more but is a tiny bit less physical, or you trade the same player for a lower value then the one you are picking up?

Therein lies the problem…we don't have what it would take to "pay" for it.

You could trade a forward, Vrbata for example, hope Sven can fill the role. Then use that $ to fix other weak areas in the roster, via trade or FA.
