In response to Kaptaan's comment about shipping Garrison out (over Bieksa)...

True. Shades of the Grabner trade where we kept Raymond.
hindsight being 20/20 and all that.

- dbot

Similar players or situation, lets trade the younger player and roll with the older guy. Maybe less so with the Grabner deal, just a throw in for Ballard. Then outright released by the Panthers, talk about fecked up.

But hey, not to be a Gillis defender, didn't like the deal at the time wanted to move Raymond before Grabner but we were going for the cup.

People talk about the window, I think when teams make those sort of trades, the window closes sooner. Maybe the window is open wider with the move, but you have to expect a bare patch among the prospects when you move picks or prospects for a playoff or cup push.

Oh my, Ian has gone full Esplen. I didn't think it was possible to get Esplenier than he already was, but this is.

As for what I think the Oilers would part with for Phaneuf and Bernier, I think the Leafs could get Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as the centerpiece, with a prospect and the No. 16 pick coming back. This would give the Leafs a No. 1 centre to re-build around, as well, Babcock gets his Datsyuk guy – hey RNH was compared to him at the draft. IE

Wow. Don't see it. Big overpayment by Edmonton. Maybe he is trying to endear himself to Leaf fans. wow.

I think the big question is who on the farm team is ready to play in the NHL? It was mentioned on the 1040 earlier this morning , and even tho Pratt and Edwards are idiots it does hold true.

Carol mentioned JB is very close with Utica right now sizing up his options and talent potential. This will go a long way to what moves he needs to do this summer. Even though some here Think our D Prospects are super thin , late playoff run and low scores may have Benning thinking otherwise.

Is it worth to chase a guy like Petry or Franson and pay top dollar , or promote a Sanguinetti or Clendenning .

I would be pissed if Benning let contracts expire again with no returns of picks or prospects. He has to move those aging players.

Us fans need patience , we are in for some losing years.

saw this in the Sharks blog:

- Jim Jamieson of The Province floated a fantasy trade involving Hamhuis for Seabrook. Is Hamhuis available? While his age, 32, isn’t really appealing it’s hard to ignore the chemistry he had with Brent Burns at the World’s. Now, making a deal solely off chemistry from an all-star international roster is foolilsh, but the Sharks do need a top four defender – and Hamhuis could be around and able to help for the rest of the Thornton/Marleau years at a friendly cap hit. He’s currently at $4.5M and a UFA after next season. What would the Sharks have to send back? I don’t know, it was a random thought, but he’s a 32 year old pending UFA. He’s not outright attractive, but there may be value in him to stabilize the top four while the kids get better. Probably not, but a thought. - Tim Chiasson

So what would it take??

- GloveHandStrong

I don't see it happening but would love to see Benning pull this off

Hamhuis Kassian Lack 23 Rd for 9 th and Dillon

Even better if we could swap Miller for Lack

Probably if the Canucks eat salary or take a significant contract back.

If the return is decent, sure. Not like we'll be contenders during those 2 years anyway.

I would do it even if the return was weak. I would rather go forward with Lack / Markstrom

I would laugh if Markstrom became our # 1 for many years. Then we could laugh at those idiots like SenCanucks troll that laugh and ask what did we get for Luongo

That'll make at least two of us. I don't get the love Franson is getting on here. If we could get him at $3 million then go for it. But you know he's going to command at least 4.5-5 million and someone is in fact going to pay him that.

Franson hasn't showed me anything that jumps out at me - and no, he's not the quiet stay at home defenseman either. He's just been unimpressive, is all. Frankly, I feel he's a step up from Sbisa but that's about it.

I do not want Franson on my team and I don't get the interest he's drawn

I would rather try a one million dollar Sanguinetti myself.

Yep.

Throwing money and term at the defence doesn't fix the defence if you sign the wrong players.

Franson sounds as physical as Matthias. So what if he is big, if he doesn't use the size, he isn't addressing what we are lacking.

As per signing Sanguinetti, still disappointed we didn't see him in the Canuck lineup with all the injuries. JB is a funny guy, didn't know what we had or didn't think we had much in Utica and unwilling to see what they can do when they are having a stellar year. AHL all star, not guaranteed a spot with the Canucks, but deserved a look at least.

I knew Franson was not tough, I liked his shot from the point. Sanguinetti is Franson2.0

Without the price tag or term.

Shoots right... wonder if he would be a better option than Weber? Like I have been droning on about, would have been nice to see him in the lineup.

I think JB is finding out first hand .

Grenier and Baertschi look good together also. Don't be surprised if our third line next year is those two with Bo

Sven is almost a given to make the team. Grenier would bring a bit of size, is he physical?

Just did a rough calculation on #Canucks goalie Jacob Markstrom's even strength GAA during AHL playoffs: 1.17
