5.5-6 makes more sense with all the intangibles. But let's be real. He's playing with Toews and Hoss man. Not to say he's a bad player, his production is just inflated. Not justified for 7M a year, really.

Ok lets ask if it were 7 mil, do you want Saad or ROR?

How do you fill the D hole that moving Zadorov would leave?
- kingcong39

Pysyk, McCabe, Martin, Florentine all in the system.

ROR, with all the Irish pubs we have in Buffalo :'D

This team is deep enough at defense that moving Zadorov won't leave the as big of a void as people think. The only player that would leave a noticeable hole is Ristolainen.
- buffalofan19

Only thing is I see a "Pronger type game" in Zads and that isn't something I'm looking to move if it were up to me.

Technically we could get away with trading him without having to fill the hole immediately. It just leaves the depth on the light side. You could fill that by bringing in a vet guy though (and no, I don't have an example).

More serious answer, ROR because he's played with younger kids and I feel he has better experience leading the young guns than adding Saad who has lined with veterans.

Florentino is 3 years away at best
Martin may never be

None of the guys in the system have the potential Zads has.

Not really sure why, but if I was told I had to move one of the Defensemen we have that we drafted, I'd say McCabe. Not sure why exactly, but he'd be the one I'd hate moving the least.

I agree.

Zads has that rugged offensive style
Risto and Pysyk has that calming game managers

All 3 are guys I'd like to see here for a while.

He also has the least trade value of the bunch.

there's also quite a few defenseman that have the strong stay-at-home play in the draft. I do like Zad's complete upside for sure. But if we move him for promising return, then ayyyy

This!

It wasn't all about McDavid. It has been all about McEichel.

Last place guaranteed it. We needed to get one. Eichel was like this amazing 6 course meal. McDavid would have been the extra dessert.

We all hoped to get McDavid but we knew we were getting a franchise changing player if we finished last

I think that about sums it up. I guess I just see McCabe's skill set isn't any better than any of the others. IMO, Pysyk has a better outlet pass and is a better skater. Risto is looking like he'll be a #1, and I just don't see McCabe's upside being that high. Zadorov plays a more physical game. There's not 1 thing about McCabe's skillset that jumps out at me like the rest.

I don't know if I would say that. I would think that his return wouldn't be all that different than Pysyk's. Zadorov may garner a bit more in return but he's probably also the biggest risk out of all of them.

For the most part, any defenseman that gets draft this year is most likely 5 years or so away from being a contributor in the NHL. Hanifin is probably the only one that will crack and NHL roster consistently prior to that.

If it puts it in perspective, Pysyk was drafted 23rd overall.

2nd Leading scoring defenseman for Rochester last year. I like that, he's developing fine.

Kylington might have a shot at being 2 yrs away.

Without knowing his current contract situation, he could be in the AHL this coming season.

Nothing about his game is something that would be missed I think is the point though.

Exactly. Anything he does, one of the other guys we would still have does. Risto can score, Zadorov can hit, Pysyk is a better skater and has a better outlet pass.

That's not to say that McCabe isn't a good player, because he is. I'd rather not trade any of them to be honest. But we haven't even mentioned Ruhwedel, who is also ready for NHL time. I left him out before specifically though because we didn't draft him.

Jack of all trades master of none. But it makes for a good top 4 guy. Zadorov may not pan out to what people expect of him and he's got the higher trade value.

He's also a mess in his own end apparently. It's a big reason why his stock fell so far this year. That being said, I'd still be willing to draft him. He didn't start out the season in the top 5 for no reason.

I think the injury around mid-year had something to do with his late year struggles.

That's how I feel about Pysyk for the most part. I do think he has a great outlet pass though and his skating ability is going to allow him to play big minutes if he's needed to. In fact, his skating might be his biggest asset.

Watched him a lot last year, he was lost in his own end but i chalked that up to him being young and hopefully getting better this year. I think it actually got worse, and his absence from the world juniors didn't help but i think if you pair him with the right guy it could pay off.

He's the type of guy Pysyk should be paired with. Pysyk is fine with staying back and covering the defensive zone. He's going to allow whoever his partner is to free-wheel into the offensive zone.
