I think Martin, Sekera, Green

2 of them does a world of difference for this team next season

only wingers I like are Williams, Beleskey and Vermette
maybe Downie

I wouldn't want any of those getting 18 minutes a game up front though

And when none of the come here or woefully under achieve, what then? As of today there's really nothing out there worth paying a big price for, 5th overall pick next year does more for the organization than any of the names that have been mentioned.

If they are drafting 5th in 2016 draft, Murray IMO needs to be fired

Seriously? On what grounds? The team gets significantly better but doesn't become a playoff team overnight and Murray needs to be let go? Because he didn't overpay for mid level players?

You without a shred of doubt need good/great goaltending.

How many 1 goal games have the Rangers won this playoffs? I wonder if they had Enroth how well they'd fair

- sbroads24

No, you need your goaltender playing well. Once again, look at all of the great goalies sitting home right now. Also, on opening night of the playoffs only 1 of the 16 goalies had won a cup. You need young stars to win the cup, not great goalies. The main reason for this is that there is a negligible difference between goalies throughout the league.

if the team gets less then 70 points this season, it should be an option

instead of assuming this team is going to be bad for another 2 years, how about figuring out what is needed to make this team close to 8th in the east this season

team has a lot of cap space

I don't get the "Look at all the great goalies at home" point. The best one in the league is still there.
The 2nd best one in the league was in the 2nd round

That's the issue, bloated contracts and unnecessary trades to push for 8th place sets this team back

Because what is needed, isn't available.

Because what is needed, is already in the organization, just a little too young.

Because what is needed doesn't guarantee us a playoff spot and seriously cripples any future spending we may want to do

Take your pick.

Look at all the scoring leaders sitting at home. None of the top 10 leaders in points through the regular season are left right now. Therefore you don't need or should want to find a great scorer, you just need someone to score come playoff time

I understand the desire after the horrific past two years to speed things up and get going but what's so wrong with watching all of your players at the NHL level with a team that is actually TRYING to win next year for the first time in almost two years?

It is entirely possible the Sabres are much improved next year but end up drafting in the top 5, especially with the new lottery rules.

As another said, the Sabres drafting top 5 next year would help the team as much as any player they could add this offaeason.

The only way Murray would possibly be in trouble is if the team is literally no better next year, and I find that almost impossible to believe with how obviously they've tried to lose the past two years.

Yes, and he's never won a cup. The top 3 goalies haven't won a cup. Quick, name all of the one-hit wonders to win cups in the last 20 years. There are scores of them. Now name all of the franchise goalies that put their teams on their backs and won the cup. I can't think of any since Patrick Roy in Montreal. The only person that builds from the net out is Darcy.

There has reportedly been no teams inquiring about the possibility of interviewing Paul MacLean.
In a market with plenty of high profile coaches, MacLean might find himself going into the 2015-16 campaign without a job. His fall from grace has been dramatic as he won the Jack Adams Award in 2013. He had a 114-90-35 record with the Ottawa Senators.

Because he's not a very good coach.

I see no reason why GMTM would make that mistake. Any major moves made will be for the future, not for someone else's bad contract.

But they don't make you a playoff team, all the while eating up most of your cap. Dedicating close to 10 mil to martin and green would be disastrous.

You're wasting your time, they don't get it. It's always " more years or more picks " or " we can't trade this player or these players are going to be a studs " it never changes. 17 years with Darcy a shade under 2 decades and we have nothing to show for all his bulls$$t, no matter what people say.

Probably similar to the Toronto - Columbus trade. It's a way to get back assets using resources that are in abundance (Pegula cash, cap space). They would probably buy him out as he isn't playing again.

From our perspective.
