sabres prospects are as good as the hawks when they drafted kane
- homiedclown

Not sure about that, we're talking about 3 players that were good enough to go on and make the Canadian Olympian team.

Either way it's still going to take about 3 years, not sure how anyone could argue around that.

But will they pan out exactly like they did for the Hawks?

In P Kanes second season, the hawks had 104 points , 6th in NHL and made it to the WCF's

that should be the sabres goal for 2016-17

- homiedclown

We would need a complete overhaul of a supporting cast.

Sharp scored 26 goals in 60 games that year
Havlat had 70 points
Ladd was there
Byfuglien was there
Campbell was there

I think people really forget the supporting cast on that team, they had some very nice players filling out the bottom half of their lineup. Everyone of our young guys would have to pan out and pan out big while picking up some very nice UFA's for us to compete for the cup in 3 years. Could it be done, sure but the odds of it happening are not all that great IMO.

I'd say 2017 is when we start to compete.

Eichel I. His 3rd season . Reinhart should have 150 or so games under his belt

Risto will be 22-23 Girgensons right in the middle of his prime

players that should be on the bottom of this roster, if a few moves are made

sprinkle in 2 or 3 additions, this team looks a lot like the hawks team for kane's rookie season

16 months, the roster could look ready for 2016-17 season, my realistic expectation

We could surprise in the next couple years but realisically unless the cap is lowered, some teams get into cap trouble and guys like Saad (or enter any other good 22 to 24 year old) becomes available, 2017 seems like the logical year that we make some noise.

It could happen but I am not going to get to excited about it just yet. Just looking forward to this team actually looking like they belong in the NHL.

You mean 4 or 5 additions?

We have no one near as good as Campbell as our 3rd defensemen, or Sharp as our 3rd or 4th best forward.

This thing is going to take time

I think a d man is a given, better then what we got last off season

I also think a proven winger will be added

the question is does murray pull off a big trade or 2

I'd kick the tires on Chara to see what the realistic asking price is and my guess is a 3rd and average prospect

I wonder if Murray has a relationship with Chara

No (frank)ing way a division rival gives Chara to us for that cheap, or it would be all but done at this point. They will ask for a 1st and a prospect.

There are no really good FA forwards, a few decent D men, none close to Campbell.

Unless Murray wants to deplete the whole organization for 2 or 3 players than its going to be 2-3 years IMO.

I think he has 2 more years of quality play, second unit

if he plays out the contract, 6th d man the last year

he would be great for the kids IMO

Then why not let them keep that ogre and tell them we will take Lucic off their hands? (frank) Chara, he's done.

I think Martin, Sekera, Green

2 of them does a world of difference for this team next season

only wingers I like are Williams, Beleskey and Vermette
maybe Downie

I wouldn't want any of those getting 18 minutes a game up front though

Whats an average prospect in your mind? Fashing? Baptiste?

Carrier, Malone, Karabacek, Cornel, Hurley

IMO Fashing or Baptiste are players you move in a package to try to get a young front line player, like the Kane trade
