As for success is he really that much better than Carlyle?? Both have a Cup ring. Babcock has international experience but look at the awesome team he had. And he almost lost to TedNolans Latvia team if it weren't for a few brilliant Carey Price saves in the 3rd.

Toronto had their coach.., a coach who had them 3rd in the Atlantic which a crap team. We saw how bad it turned when they fired him..

You should probably reconsider this statement.

What the leafs did was completely disruptive, particularly to budget teams. If the leafs (and other wealthy teams) can drive dollars away from players salaries to other areas of the business, it becomes an additional competitive advantage over budget teams.

Really, they should be looking to drive up costs across all areas of hockey operations.

Jessel lupul and phanuef = really good prospects,picks,players. That's a good thing for a team just starting a complete rebuild.
Leadership and character won't be a prob under Babs. I'm sure he will have a strong voice in that area. Unlike the past few head coaches.this will come during the rebuild. That's why it's called a rebuild. U know start from scratch.

Babs is known to be well like by everyone he pretty much coaches only coach in the nhl to be. 3 gold winner. That alone tells player he knows how to win..big picture my friend. both teams are winners today.

detroit will likely hire an up and coming coach for reasonable price in blashill. the difference in utility provided by bashill and babcock probably won't be significant.

leafs get what they desperately need - credibility. a proven winner and stability at the coaching position will hopefully set the foundation for a expedited rebuild.

only real losers from today are the sabres.
