Interesting thought....
Not really onboard with the Semin thing, but lets say we do that trade...
Then we still have Sutter that maybe we can trade with Bennett to Arizona for the rights to RFA Mikkel Boedker who they have no shot in hell of retaining. I like Bennett a lot still, but if we send Harrington to Carolina, Arizona's gonna need a prospect. A guy who projects to be a scoring top 6 winger if he pans out with a change of scenery along with a young C that they may overvalue may be an enticing exchange for a guy they can't hope to retain.
That leaves us with Boedker, Hornqvist, Perron, and Semin as our top 6 with Kunitz being able to jump up. This takes pressure away from Kapanen to instantly pan out so he can develop properly. And then, of course, sign Soderberg as our 3C
Question though: does this fit under the cap? Donde esta capgeek? - Victoro311
Well, I believe we have 7-8 mil for all the spots we need, correct?
Spaling, Sutter and Bennett being traded gives us roughly 6.4 mil. Semin at 4 mil for this example.
Boedker's cost, I don't know what hes going for.
Kunitz would NEED to be traded for whatever asset he can bring if we get Semin, IMO.
So, in this, Kunitz should offset Semin mostly... Bennett, Spaling, being most likely 4th liners here again (can't play to the hopefulness of Bennett's potential now) can be replaced for 2-3 million... Hell, Comeau and Downie retained ^_^. There is about 200K to a million gained back.
Sutter will need to be replaced... some might say Winnik could do it... I'm not super high on that, but if we are going to load up our top 2 lines with this kind of firepower, I'm all for it.
So, Boedker's cost (gonna just call it 4 million since I don't know, someone is more than welcome to give me a more accurate price) and depending on Semin's retain amount, is taking on roughly 8.5 million. We shed about 10.25 million in Kunitz, Sutter, Spaling, and Bennett (Bennett's cost just calling 900k). Now add 2-3 million for our two 4th line replacements, and this became almost an equal cost transaction. |

Jesus... that theorizing right there was more work than I've done all day... So much stuff in QA or processing...
Also, anyone can replace Boedkar with another top 6 winger... I don't know his play really, but whatever. |

Plus you need a 3rd line center and probably another bottom 6 forward and most likely another defenseman |

Reread what I put out... Winnik takes our 3rd line center position and we then can have a more shutdown 3rd line with his style of play.
A 4th line center costs nothing, 1-1.5 mil.
Bottom 6 forward, we have some in the AHL who "should" be ready to come up for that role(s), so under 1 mil.
That actually would leave us for 3-5 million for another defenseman. |

if the yotes are going to trade boedker, they are going to package him for a scoring winger. They arent going to downgrade with sutter and bennett. with the coyotes missing out on mcdavid and eichel, I could see them throwing boedker, hanzal, and/or a decent D prospect for a big name player. |

I was just looking at his shooting % and shot totals. Career average is 11.6% biut he has a very low volume of shots. I tend to think his shot totals would increase playing with 87/71 and if his % stay the same he'd score a lot of goals. As for his game I can't honestly say I've seen him play a ton so I have no idea. |

2 million tops... his time here wasn't to his favor due to our injury woes. More likely 1.5 million area.
edit: stupid me... i'll just ask him on Twitter... that'll probably be faster. |

Yes. B.Pouliot cheered for the Penguins because of Lemieux. He said it on the 2005 draft special with Sid, Jack Johnson, B.Ryan and him. |

Ill take Boedker over Semin everyday.
No way CAR trades Semin and keeps 50% for any of these proposals. |

Sutter would be the best C on that team and 2nd scoring behind a Dman. They might be interested. |

I still dont get the Winnik deal. Maybe BB was the only bottom 6 player Winnik looked better than in the playoffs. But BB got scratched.....again. |

I'm sure living out west you saw more of Boedker then I did. What type of player is he? |

I haven't seen a ton of him. But 1 take was good puck skills, decent speed, didn't seem very physical, but its limited times I saw him and also has a good shot. I dont think he's a super star Kane, or even Eberle level talent, but still better than anything the Pens have in the system or could get FA. Also, he was hurt, and PHX desperately needs a C so it could be a good match.
You can't just say Oh I want player X so Ill trade player Y. The other team must have a need for player Y's position. |

Not an off day, I am way ahead of schedule in most of my tasks. Regardless, the nature of my work normally has 10-80 minute processing times after building or adjusting things, so there is downtime spread throughout the day.
No Nap Pods, I am not in the CA location.
Also, you got that question in right as I had to make adjustments... ya Richard :p
double also: I use two screens, or have multiple windows opened at once... Ya know, us damn kids are so good with the interwebs and gadgets and poop. |

Also... James Tanner's view on Boedker...
Today @ 1:57 PM ET
Hey James... doing some roster theorizing... Can you give me an analysis of Boedker as a top 6 winger trade target for Pittsburgh?
- Guile
Sure, but you'll probably miss it since there's a new one up now. But Boedker on a line with Sid or Malkin would be a dream. He's so fast and talented and I still think he's going to have a hell of a career. I love Boedker. I really hope they don't trade him.
So, he doesn't want us to have him... sounds good.
And our one Flyer friend's opinion on him...
jmatchett383
Big, strong winger, could probably be a top-line player on a team like Chicago.
Probably tops out as a top-2 scorer, with 2-3 Hart Trophies.
Could bring a return in the Crosby/Malkin + Letang area. |
