I'd be super pumped if I was a Leafs fan, still a lot of work to do, but he's a good start |

Sure? I don't think anyone considers the Penguins America's team... but if we have to go by TV ratings, we'd get that then. |

Yeah, it's one of those things that there really isn't a downside to, in my opinion. Needed a coach, got a good one. Money doesn't hurt the cap, so I could care less what the contract is.
I know the Leafs draft isn't going to be as awesome as the Oil's, but it's still going to be a really good one for them. Lots to be excited about, genuinely, for the first time in a while for Leafs fans.
Congrats on your hire too, another top level guy! |

Meh? The money doesn't touch our cap, its really just on the Org and Owners... term only is bad if he fails horridly. - Guile
Yes it's not my money. If Burkle realizes in the future he may be paying him to sit around the house and annoy his wife, then yeah, I'm ok with it. Fact is, even HOF coaches get fired. That contract is a marriage.......and most marriages don't last that long. |

Actually no. Happily married. At least half of my friends however learned a very expensive lesson. |

*Polite reminder that Steven Stamkos is a UFA after next season*
Either he takes a reasonable deal with Tampa, or we'll let him walk... or trade him next season.
The kid has been "just okay" in the playoffs while the Yzerman-era prospects have been lighting it up. If, today, I had the choice to keep Hedman or Stammer, I'm keeping 77. - OzBolts
Are you serious with this, of course the Lightning will and should do everything in their power to sign him. 8 year 10MM per year most likely. He is a perennial 40+ goal scorer not to mention a great locker room guy. He is the face of the franchise. If it wasn't for his talent the triplets line would have never been born because they would not have had the opportunity to stay together without Stamkos, they would have to break the line up to get more scoring depth but Stamkos allows them the depth to stay together because he is that good. Stamkos played all year long with a rotating cast of linemates to accomodate the triplets. Please give him his do, he has been more then OK in the playoffs your just looking at goals, he has been great in his 2 way play and still has 12 points. And to your second point you keep both Hedman and Stamkos. The triplets are awesome as well but you just dont give up a 40+ goal scorer. Can't believe I just had to write this. |

Did Malkin sleep with your sister and not call her or something? You are really stuck on getting rid of him. |

Dont have a sister. Ive listed the reasons why I think he should be moved in the past. Just tired of watching 2 great players with scrubs as their wingers. |

The real value is the instant respectability he brings into that dressing room.
The first time one player floats on a back check will be his last.

Well Stammer being meh in the playoffs coupled with Johnson, Palat, etc tearing it up is doing him no favors for his bargaining position. |

So... to fix this, you want to bring in a different star center, who will cost even more than Malkin.

How exactly would Stamkos fix anything? He is gonna cost more money. I suppose Stamkos will probably not be so injury prone and is a few years younger, but if the stated problem is winger depth, Stamkos would just exacerbate that. |

This is how i feel when everyone generalizes all Leafs fans. Apparently i have the exact same opinions as the Leafs fans at everyone's work place? |

He wanted to leave and the Lightning accommodated him because he was a veteran who gained that right I guess. The Lightning did not want him to leave and had no choice. Not sure what this has to do about what I wrote about Stamkos. |

I thought Yzerman got a good deal out of him. Callahan's contract might be somewhat painful down the road, but right now I'd say you guys won that trade. |

Let's suppose the Penguins decide that Malkin and Crosby aren't compatible. They can't run a power play nor play effectively at even strength. The very thought causes Penguins fans to visibly start. Let's suppose that the Penguins can acquire Stamkos somehow; either a trade or a UFA signing. Is Stamkos a better compliment to Crosby for roughly the same cap hit? Theoretically the best North American set-up guy and the most authoritative North American finisher together kind of thing. It's like imagining Malkin and Ovie on a line in the NHL.
If you want to imagine what a team could look like with a super elite playmaker and a super elite right-handed finisher, check out Anaheim. The problem with the Penguins is then a question of depth a center. Centers may be difficult to come by unless the Penguins are talking to the Oilers about their sudden collection of three #1 Cs. |

Stamkos is gonna end up getting $10m+/yr like Toews and Kane signed. Penguins are already stretched thin with the salary cap and this would make it worse. |
