Being the number one in total fans and revenue nearly every year does help to make them the center. - Guile
Right but the attention that all the other fan bases give them is pretty amazing and also makes them the center. |

Meh... I think you are getting too hung up on this. Every year they are supposed to be great, and they are almost always a disappointment.
Its like watching a video of a little kid tripping and falling into mud on America's Funniest Home Videos. Its too stupid not to watch it everytime it comes up. |

Quotes not working.
Since when is this perennial bunch of losers canada's team? It's not my team. Most people I know despise the Leafs. They have never won anything, at least not since they had a 1 in 6 chance of winning anyway. People have been born and died of old age since the Leafs won a stanley cup. Keep living in the past though because this hire does nothing for anyone but Babcocks bank account and gigantic ego. The Leafs have been a suckfest for 60 years and will be for 60 more, in NO WAY do I associate my country with this abomination. - Dcoms
All the TV ratings across Canada prove by far the Leafs are Canada's team. The money they generate in merchandise outside of Toronto (rest of Canada) probably dwarfs any other CDN teams revenue. There is no doubt that Toronto is Canada's hockey team - even if it's not yours. |

I really don't get the fascination other fan bases have with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It's bizarre! - Cooshie
Its because they are the rogers leafs. They can be $hit and the average joe cant afford to go to a game. Stupid corporate yuppies. |

Every year they are supposed to be great by only their fan bases account. Media never gives them that credit (rightly so). Most intelligent Leaf fans have known for a long time that the Leafs were no where near as good as some thought. |

Well before they were "Rogers" Leafs (Bell and Tannenbaum own them too), they were just as popular across every hockey city in North America. Fans (Leaf and none) are just fascinated with this team. |

There was never a chance he wanted to be the Pens coach.
Actually thought he was staying in DET, a bit surprised. |

Not even close....
No other team gets nearly the attention the Leafs do by other fan bases - love or hate.
Really, when so much attention is paid to Leafs (good or bad) it constantly reminds their fans they really are the center of the hockey universe. - Cooshie
I don't know man, Oilers blog consistently has the most comments, and a lot of it isn't from Oiler fans |

Have I said anything at all that is false??
Leaf fans out stat every other team outside whatever city they are from across Canada 10fold.....as well as merchandise sales outside their city as well. Pretty sure that would make them that countries "team" by any definition of the word. Doesn't mean everyone loves them, just means that collectively, they are the most liked team nation wide.... |

Then why do they draw the most ratings and merchandise sales outside their own city over any other CDN team??
How can you make any sense of that? |

Im fascinated with ur fascination. Its because ontario has the biggest population and ppl from ontario live all over canada. For as many fans they have remember there are thousands who laugh and tear them apart .they r they but end of countless jokes. I could care less but understand the hate

I really wanted Babcock as a Pen. Of course I knew the Pens weren't trying to get him. Considering those terms, I'm glad they didn't. Too long of a contract and too much money for a coach IMO. |

I think he'll end up being part of the front office as well. Looks like Dubas, Shanahan, and Babcock will be part of the personnel decision makers. |

Yea because they come from a city that is more than double the size of the next biggest in the country, that literally means absolutely (frank) all, and it's pretty pathetic that this is your actual train of thought. |
