In the east, maybe.

if they get a goalie and a pp qb, I can see them in the hunt to win the division with 2 weeks left in the season

Don't have a GM right now, but when we do, his role will be more of a middle man than decision maker.
- Feeling Glucky?

That might actually be a good thing. It would appear our middle man may have cost us a couple relationships with 2 known names in hockey. Who knows how many more.

I get the Bergeron comparisons. They are similar but Bergeron is still the better player IMO.

The Kopitar ones are way off base.

who would you rather have in the fun and gun era?

LA, SJ, Anaheim, even Calgary will probably beat them to that. I do see Vancouver taking a dip though. And that's just their division. Just too many good teams in the West to consider them a contender just yet.

To be fair Bergeron put up 143 points in 158 games in the fun and gun era.

But

I'd lean towards Kopitar.

sounds like babcock would have taken the money from buffalo if it was the best offer. when toronto matched the money, he looked for another perk that murray was unlikely to match, and then took the leafs offer. im not at all upset about it, pretty sure the roster control thing was more about highlighting a perk to justify taking torontos offer. not sure if you ever have been to buffalo for a leafs-sabres games, the games are probably a third leafs fans. i do hope that more fans hold onto their tickets now, dont want the neutral site feel for the games against the leafs now.

Babcock says the Sabres offer was bigger. He wanted to coach the Leafs.

Umm...the Oilers made mistakes, but you said they ignored Defense and goaltending. Were you talking about the draft, where they picked Marincin, Klefbom and Nurse, or free agency?
- Jeropotato

I'm not talking about in the last 12 months. Since losing the Stanley cup in 06' they drafted 6 forwards with their first pick in a row before finally taking nurse. It was rumored and probably true that they could have had Myers. But I don't have to argue with you on this, like I said the results speak for themselves.

no clue

their top 6 gets better before free agency hits

special teams will be huge for them to close the gap

I'm kinda glad we didn't shell out all that money for him.

Anaheim has to figure out what they are doing with Beleskey and Silfverberg (two of their top six).
LA has Williams and Toffoli to figure out.
SJ has to figure out their coach situation.
Calgary has to deal with growing pains.

I think all of those teams have the potential to take a dip.

Edmonton is not losing any of their top 6 unless they are trading someone.

We lucked out that Risto wasn't in the CHL. Gave us a lot more freedom to develop him the way we wanted. He may be slightly ahead developmentally, but they're both going to be good players when all is said and done.

Edmonton has to figure out how to not get manhandled and pushed around by almost everyone in thier division. The only team that doesn't currently is Vancouver.

It's not though not even close really.

Kopitar is a .893 ppg player
ROR is .576 ppg player

One is more physical and takes very little penalties the other is said to be a pain in the ass to play against but not as physical and takes very little penalties.

Honestly I'd take Kopitar over ROR everyday all day. No question who the better player is. Not to say ROR can't become him but as of now it's no question.

- dadeadhead

My "compare" app only gives this season's stats - not career stats - but ROR was at .66 ppg and Kopitar was .81. Much closer than your calcs.
