No. I bet we get Scarface.

Todd Cordell notes he turned down a gig as Babcock's assistant in DET last year, so he's unlikely to go to TOR, and Shero (Jersey's GM) is tight with John Hynes.

I can be happy with it.

he is ok

downside is the leaf fans will say we settled for their leftovers

he was almost a .500 coach with the leafs which IMO is proving he is a decent coach

I am not a fan of his playoff record which would be the only flag I have

You're a bottom 5 team next year until this improved roster you speak of is signed, sealed and delivered. Not trolling, same goes for Edmonton. A couple rookie centres added to the mix does zero for your playoff hopes.
- Jeropotato

I don't necessarily disagree, though me putting the Sabres in 10th and not in the bottom 5 is hardly much of a difference. I don't feel like they're going to go to the playoffs next season either way, so any number outside of 8th or above in the East is semantics to me, really.

The roster is improved from the one iced this season by virtue of Kane playing alone. He'll have an impact for certain. Will he have an impact that bumps the Sabres up to 10th? No, but that's what free agency and other additions and subtractions are going to do. I also think that the rookies will start slow but end strong as their game improves and they adjust to the league.

I also think that, barring a true disaster of a hire, almost any coach is going to be able to get this team to play better than the squad this season that basically didn't try. 10th is not too high of an expectation, I think, but I do think it's their ceiling when April rolls around.

I am glad we did not get Babcock and don't want Blysma. I would like Kevin Dineen, Dale Hunter, Guy Boucher or maybe Marc Crawford. Brent Sutter wouldn't be bad either.

You can put lipstick on a pig but after all is said and done, its still a pig. Until Toronto vastly improves thier roster they are stuck at the bottom of the league just like us.

Is Babcock a good coach, sure, will he make TO a cup contender, not a chance until whoever the hell their GM is does a good job tranforming that lineup.

Buffalo should be looking at Paul MacLean. He's proven that he can successfully manage younger rosters in the midst of a large fan base and definitely knows the Atlantic well.

Nobody is expecting Babcock to be an immediate Savior.

You may have noticed that Babcock has been talking about " the process," "pain," "developing a program" and "acquiring picks."

He just got here yesterday, trust me, there will be significant player changes.

I don't really see how its embarrassing. He didn't want to coach here. Its his life and he has the right to make the wrong choice. He's not the only guy who can coach hockey.

There's not a whole lot of places guys can come from. NCAA, AHL, promotion from Assistant, the Jr ranks, or currently unemployed. Take your pick.

I'm not saying he is, just pointing out the fact to everyone that if you don't have players, it really doesn't matter who your coach is.

I'm not saying that the Leafs will be immediately better next season but they do have some nice pieces. JVR former #2 overall pick is a really good young player. Morgan Reilly former #5 overall pick will be a very good defensemen for them. Nylander put up 32 points in the AHL at 18. Also they are going to get Strome or Marner. They do have some nice things going for them. I can see why Babcock went there, Toronto is a very nice city with deep rooted hockey history. Maybe it works out for them, maybe not. I'm still a big Sabres fan I'm still excited about the future with Eichel.
