I've now seen three fan bases go from Babcock is Jesus reincarnated to Babcock is an overrated douche (in Toronto's case, in opposite order). Do people ever stop and think how they sound about this stuff?

Look, Babcock would have been a great pickup here - he has good knowledge of systems and is in a good place to kick someone's ass if they need it. He'd have probably helped a great deal with our building and it hurts a bit not to get him.

He also may be exactly what Toronto needs to get Doughnut Boy and the Cro Magnon in line - so that hurts too.

But there are many good coaches still available, and we'll be fine.

Stop being so reasonable! People are trying to lick their wounds here!!!

It's pretty clear to me. Winning a cup in toronto and turning that franchize around would make the guy a legend. Winning a cup in Buffalo is nothing compared to winning a cup in Toronto. His legacy will be remembered forever if he manages to win a cup there.

I am so happy that I am a late hockey fan bloomer and have NO understanding or fascination with people wanting to play for Toronto or calling them the Hockey Capital of the World. To me... they are just a bottom cellar team that gets their fans hopes up from time to time and gloat about moral victories instead of real ones claiming that their championships of almost 50 years ago make them a great team today.

I would be actually shocked if the Maple Leafs win a cup in the next decade or so.
I think regardless of what coach we implement, we will have a greater chance to win in near future.
Toronto has to go through a 4-5 year rebuilding process.

Crosby had 39. I already adjusted it down to 33 because this league is not a goal scorers league at present.

I'd be surprised if he gets 25. I expect massive struggles early and a strong finish in the 60pt range.

Honestly, I relieved this is all over. Babcock showed his true colors in the past week. He and the Maple Leafs can have each other, its a perfect fit. I for one, couldn't care less. Less pressure on us. I hope this blows up in their faces.

At first I was more bitter and had a huge response planned, but really, Babcock looks like a POS, he just royally (frank)ed up coach salaries to a laughable level (way to set that bar, Mike) and he is going to a team that has been a mess for going on 60 years. Good luck.

Second of all, how do you know my GM didn't offer Babcock the same deal that the Maple Laughs offered him??

I 100% believe it is. I'm so much happier with Eichel and our yet un-named coach.

we are Buffalo. We are supposed to be the underdog. Bring it on.

Actually there is more pressure on buffalo to find a coach that can mold this team into a contender.

The part that's most interesting to me about the whole thing is actually the money portion. He could have come to Buffalo, gotten paid the same amount (let's not even get into taxes and all that BS), and had less he needed to do.

Instead, he chose to go to Toronto where he's got some sort of "control" but he's not getting paid any more to do more work essentially.

I'm not mad he didn't come here. It is what it is. We'll find a coach. There's no guarantee he would have taken us any further than anyone else they bring in. Nobody knows that for sure. I just think the logistics behind the whole thing are a bit odd.

- HonkFortheGoose

The tax thing isn't BS at all, it's a huge deal with signing FAs.

At the amount of money he'll be making, he'll be taxed almost 50%

There were leafs fans in here bashing that Buffalo was willing to put that money to him and that he wasn't worth it. You can't speak for the entire fan base and they don't speak for you but just know that there are dumb people on both sides of everything.

Plus, under Pegula, all we've done is "win" offseasons and disappoint in regular seasons. I'm not made we lost today's offseason battle. I'm so over those.

This is the way I look at it...

Toronto is about to hit the "flush" handle on their toilet bowl...

Buffalo has already flushed, drained, and are now over 50% full again.

Babcock wants to be the who gets to refill the bowl. Murray didn't want to start over.

End of Story.

I don't think TO goes full rebuild, or Babcock wouldn't have signed. They committed to a tank last year after being in 8th place in December to finishing in 27th with hopes to improve their chances of winning the lottery. Now, they hire the most sought after coach since Bowman and do a complete 180 in the process.

He obviously only wanted the money. I don't see where a coach gets off having such a large say in personnel decisions. Apply for the (frank)ing GM position, then.
