It would be better than Knuitz/Sutter/Dupuis. Everyone was glowing about what great third liners Kunitz and Dupuis would make once they lost a step. This is what cognitive dissonance looks like on ice. - Johnny Wrath
I always thought they would make great 3rd liners 3-4 years ago. Now it will just be sad. I loved Kunitz but he is in the twilight of his career. |

I dont think you see Kuntiz, Sutter, Spaling or Scuds on this roster next year. The Pens know they need to get younger. I would be ok with bringing Laps back at a sub 1 mil contract, I would also be ok with Winnik coming back to be on the 3rd line also. |

I like Lap as a 4C, and Winnik or Comeau not both.
Not sure how they would move those 4 and the buy out option kinda sucks for Scuds. |

I think a team would take scuds. They aren't going to give us much but who cares. |

Agree. We'd likely have to eat a little to avoid taking on a bad contract, I'm just afraid that after him getting an "A" in March, management thinks too highly of him. It sucks that the crap-organizations are beginning to smarten up! |

If the team is able to unload Scuderi at 50% cap hit for a 7th round pick, they should take it. Not sure he is tradable unless a bad contract comes back. |

Why in the hell did the Pens NOT require a third for Shero? This isn't getting nearly the print it rightfully deserves. Detroits gonna do it, same with San Jose. We're no better. |

Shero wasn't doing anything and Lemieux/Burke wanted him on another contract so I understand why they didn't want the pick. Babcock is involved in the scouting so I understand how he is a loss to Detroit, but McClellan isn't coming back anyway so I don't know why EDM can't just do everything and then sign him in July (when his contract expires). |

Because there was a solid chance they wouldn't have taken Shero for that price. Some teams might even drop a 2nd and a 3rd for Babcock. |

It's great for Crosby that he continues to succeed any time he's not wearing a Penguins sweater. That's not a critique against his relative rate of success in the NHL as much as an observation about the differences between the organizational competence of Team Canada vs. Pittsburgh Penguins. - Johnny Wrath
i agree with this. ugh. |

You do realize team Canada doesn't have to follow a salary cap...right? |

if you need a salary cap to understand that maybe crosby shouldnt be up roaming around by the blueline on the PP, then they need to have some sort of internal discussion. |

Six penalties called in about 11 minutes of the ECF game... None were "bad" calls... but I don't think anyone would have been shocked if zero to just one were called.
The refs are... I don't even know anymore XD |

I didn't have a problem with not demanding a pick. If Shero wants Hynes, they'll have to cough up a pick.
I saw a blog somewhere saying they should deny Hynes the ability to speak with the Devils. Should keep him in house in case HCMJ doesn't work out next year. Hynes really has done some nice things with our less than wonderful prospect pool....especially at forward. |

I wouldn't deny them the ability to talk with him... Since Detroit let Babcock talk, it would look exceedingly bad on us to deny that. |

Babcock is on an expiring contract though. I wouldn't mind Hynes going to another team but definitely not one in the division. |

Can't deny an employee a chance at a better position. Makes you look bad and might hamper chances at quality guys for positions down the road. If people see that the pens organization can constantly produce future coaches or whatever, it could sway them to join. Just one way to look at it, but I see the argument wanting to deny them |

I've come around on Semin. Inconsistent as he is, this is really the only year he wasn't at least a top 6 wing. He should bounce back to at least do that and has the talent to do more. If there is any validity to the rumor of the Pens wanting to add a Russian to appease Malkin, and if his value is so low that they can unload one of our bad contracts in return with some salary retention the final year thus getting him while adding under 4M in salary, it would be worth the risk. And while talking, I'd inquire if there's a bigger deal to be had involving Jordan if the Canes end up blowing up their roster (which they should). |

Would we get compensation if Hynes is hired or is it only pro coaches? |

Add one more to my corner! Problem is that none of our cap dumps (Scuderi, Kunitz) would waive to go there. So it's likely Spaling + meh prospect or maybe even Spaling + Bennett given the Canes retaining so much salary.
He's not a can't miss guy but the risk/reward @ $3.5M and cost to acquire is the best we will find.

Detroit has been denying people access to Jeff Blashill. Granted, they have uncertainty with Babcock. It will be interesting to see if Babcock stays, will they let Blashill talk to other clubs. He seems to be in demand.
Like Jfkst1 says, I'm not sure I like Hynes and Shero setting up shop in the division. |

I don't want to mislead you, but I believe it is dependent on the position they are hired into. So if anyone is hired into a GM or HC position that is on an active contract with the organization, the team losing the individual is compensated a 3rd rounder (if they want it).

Say there's a deal to be had of a Semin and Jordy package deal and they're willing to retain half of Semin's contract, roughly 3.5 mil. What if we say only retain 2 mil of Semin but also retain 1 mil of Staal. That way we can see if Semin can bounce back and earn that 5 mil pay check for a year or so and try to trade him and we have the best shut down center in the league locked up for his career at 5 mil. Who's interested? |
