That would be dumb for both parties (Detroit and Babcock)

That would put the pressure on Detroit to win and win now so that means trading their prospects and picks for established NHL players. Detroit's aging stars will be getting older and older.

It would give them a 2 year window to win the Cup. I don't see it happening.

It would be dumb for Babcock because he would end up with less money and who knows what he would want to do after going through 2 more years of first or second round playoff exits.

There is no way IMO that both parties agree to a 2 year deal, it would give Blashil a really rough beginning to his NHL coaching career as he would be coaching a rebuilding team.
