Buffalo wowed him

Now he is making sure he is ok leaving Detroit

He created this mess and in 48 hours there will be closure

I think we will like the outcome

The whole thing is really bizarre. However, his latest comments seem like he is going to have one last chat before breaking up.

I think the winners in all of this are the Oilers. They got a comparable coach at a fraction of the price.

I don't think McLellan has come close to Babcock in terms of post season success, and that's with teams that may well have had more regular season success. That's a problem for me.

Babcock also has the international tourneys where his team's did great things.

He's just better.

You could slice it a lot of different ways. Babcock has had marginal success after his original core retired. Also, I saw an article the other day that compared Babcock and Hitchcock. Their records were eerily similar but you don't see people clammoring for Hitch.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Given the lack of player trade and free-agent rumors, Babcock’s status takes center stage in the rumor mill. He’s expected to reach a decision on his future before the end of this week. The addition of the Sharks and Blues into the mix adds intrigue to this story, as only a couple of days ago there was apparently limited interest in his services. That came as a surprise to many observers predicting Babcock would be chased by at least half-a-dozen teams.

Babcock initiating talks with the Sharks suggests he’s keen to move on from the Red Wings. He also seems cool to the notion of signing with rebuilding clubs like the Leafs and Sabres. The Blues’ reported interest implies they’re ready to part ways with Hitchcock if a better option can be found. Given the list of suitors, I’d put the Sharks and Blues ahead of the Leafs and Sabres. At least we won’t have to wait long for this drama to be resolved.

Going to the Sharks doesn't seem to be much of a change from what he's dealing with in Detroit though. Yes, they have some good young talent on the roster, but they have a lot of vets that are up there in age as well. Seems that if that's one of the reasons he's ready to move on from Detroit, it would be silly to go to a team in the exact same type of scenario.

Definitely. My guess would be he's just trying to drive the price up by meeting with other teams. It's not like he can't lie about what the other team is offering to try and get more from the team he's most likely to go to in the first place. Can't hurt to try right? If we offered him $5.5 mil like is reported, what's to stop him from saying SJ offered him $6 mil to try and get a bit extra? People do stuff like that all the time.

So the latest is that Babs will sign with Detroit on a short-term deal? I'd be surprised if Detroit wanted this. First, they probably won't want to go through this again in a year or two. Two, I think they would lose their minor league coach.

There's 8 different rumors, and the best part about all of them is that Babcock hasn't even talked to his family yet.

The Sabres believe they will get him. They definetly have offered the best deal, if his family doesn't want to come ,then that is a different story

Didn't he meet with the Sharks yesterday? He initiated contact with them, so it would seem odd to me that he would ask to speak with them and then not go.
