2 sides are not close on a deal
not close on a philosophy moving forward

it's like a last ditch effort to save a 10 year marriage that both sides know is over

Weber
Gorges
Ristolainen
Bogosian
Pysyk
Ruhwedel
McCabe
Zadorov

- HonkFortheGoose

I would do anything possible to get rid of both Gorges and Weber.

Getting rid of one of them means you can sign a vet D while keeping McCabe and/or Zadorov in the AHL.

Weber would be fine as the 7th D when Ruhwedel has an injury or a bit of bad play.

Everyone see that Pierre LeBrun seems to think it's Buffalo or Detroit in this race here? FWIW
- TheSabresTaco

Mike Babcock will reportedly speak with the San Jose Sharks this week, according to hockey insider Pierre LeBrun.

CSNCalifornia.com reported Sunday that Babcock initiated contact with the Sharks. Word is that he would like to make a decision on his future by Wednesday, but his contract with the Red Wings doesn't expire until June 30. If he leaves Detroit then a third-round pick has to be sent to the Wings within the next three years as compensation

Not trying to start something, honest question. If that is what the meeting tomorrow is, then what have they been talking about in Europe?

Why would you be confident? Hopeful, wishful, prayerful, sure. I think Barnaby might be jerking all of our chains.

I'm on the fence about bringing in another vet Dman. If you do that, you're pushing out one of the young guys. I'd almost rather just let them grow this year by playing because we all know that they're not making the playoffs. Let them get the experience and grow into the vet Dman we need. Without even bringing anyone in we have:

Weber
Gorges
Ristolainen
Bogosian
Pysyk
Ruhwedel
McCabe
Zadorov

McCabe can go back to the A, not sure if Ruhwedel needs to clear waivers or not. Zadorov could probably go to the A as well, but there's definitely a logjam of sorts. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

Agree
It only makes sense to bring in another Vet defenseman if they want Zadorov in the AHL
Then we'd have something like...
New guy-Bogosian
Georges-Ristolainen
Weber-Pysyk
Ruhwedel
Then next year, Zadorov comes up and we don't resign Weber
And the following year McCabe comes in to take Georges' place
Obv the pairing will be shuffled around along the way

This is a lot of thinking. Also, I'm unsure if Cody Hodgson deserves to be in this mathematical equation. Semin, Kessel, Vanek perhaps?
- TheSabresTaco

Your brother Garth has yet again posted another Babcock blog.

I get the vibe this is a good bye meeting. They do not seem to be on the same page philosophically and now that there back here, it's time to part. I'm sure they tried to hammer things out in Prague, but I get the feeling it's over. And having both the news of that meeting and the tweets from barnaby and Lebrun seem to add to it.

I don't see the Sharks making sense
They're also led by 2 aging stars, and have an average defense like the wings, BUT... The wings have much better young talent at forward IMO
The Sharks don't have a whole lot coming up. Their GM should've been fored, not McClellan
Only reason I can see him talking to the Sharks is to get another bidder involved.
Now if StL fires Hitchcock... Then I'm worried

Last I was told 2 weeks or so ago was that Murray like Richardson, now that was before they spoke to Babcock. I heard another name as well but, I haven't heard anything since.

They also could've agreed to not talk contract till they came back to the States
They were there to scout Detroit prospects after all

I have no doubt he's interested in Richardson. But I also have no doubts he's no higher then plan E on murrays list

Your right. There's a million different possibilities. But one mans opinion, Babcock is down to us and Detroit.
