Even if you want to overlook last season, he's not a top-6 player. His numbers support that. He isn't even worthy of carrying ROR's jock strap.

Ryan O'Reilly is a good player. Not great. Can we stop acting like he's a world beater

Nobody wants ROR but they think Hodgson is a top 6

I never mentioned O'Reilly. Hodgson had 44 points on debatably the worst team post-05, translate that to a better team and I think it's safe to say he'd have put up at least 50 points. This past season was he was horrible, I'm not saying he's going to tear it up, but I believe that talent is still in there somewhere.

I would love O'Reilly here of we drafted him. Trading for him is another story. He will be Jordan Staal 2.0

The conversation you interjected into was about acquiring a player like ROR instead of relying on Hodgson.

Why, he's going to get paid here.

Yeah, why would we need a guy who scores 55-60 points every season and plays a solid two-way game when we have a guy who has one 40 point season and is a sieve on defense.

No one want's to trade a 1st round pick and D prospects for an overrated/soon to be overpaid player that will be on our 2nd line in the future, and Hodgson is by all accounts a top 6 player whether you like it or not.

I would argue you aren't trying suggesting Hodgson is even a comparable player to ROR.

By whose account? Yours? I've never seen anyone else try to assert that Hodgson is a top-6 player.

Which is my point. He will be paid much more than he's worth.

On the subject of O'Reilly, I like him, he's a good player, and I'd love to have him on the Sabres. But given his contract status, and the cost it would take to get him, I would pass

I have no doubt he will be a capable 20 goal guy somewhere, just probably not here

Depends on what you think is too much. His comparables make $6-6.5 million. Is $7 million for 7 years too much? It could be a value in 2 or 3 years.

He'll never get the chance playing defensively the way he does.

Your version of his comparables are different than mine.

I don't think he's Patrice Bergeron. I think he's Jordan Staal.

So two years as a top six player, one with .70 PPG and one where he was our leading scorer, then one year with a coach who wasn't doing him any favors and a team that wasn't exactly good, and he's no longer a top six player?

The numbers indicate he is in the same tier of players as Bergeron, Kopitar, Kesler.

He's not a top 6 and he's not worth his contract either, what Murray is trying to build doesn't include Hodgson.

You can't have it both ways, dude. You can't say he had 40+ points on one of the worst teams ever and not accept that he was only a top-6 player on said team because of the fact there was no talent on the team. He's not a top-6 on a playoff team.

People can complain all they want about ROR maybe making 7 mill a year but that's the going rate and if it's not as of now, it will be.
