Nashville, Montreal, Vancouver, Washington, Minnesota and Calgary would disagree.

Ryan Wilson had a good blog a year or so ago on why you don't win a championshipm with Hodgson.

it was a good read.

I'd love to read that but I have the basic concepts already

After thinking about it, Zadorov+Grigorenko+1st for Ryan O'Reilly. If the "win sooner than later" mentality is in for Murray, don't trade Pysyk. There's a reason Murray didn't want Pysyk up playing when the whole plan was to.. lose games..

So yeah, Kane, Eichel and O'Reilly as our top line? Let's crack some skulls.

Trade Hodgson to compensate the draft pick to get Babcock? Welp.

I don't think ROR is being touted as a #1 center.

Neither was Staal as his big brother would have something to say about that.

Staal also wasn't going to go anywhere other than Carolina.

He'll be paid ,like one.

Begeron isn't even a #1 centre on his =own team.

He will be because 7 mill a year will be the going rate for a player like him.

Far too much for a #2 centre.

He's plays like Bergeron, but hasn't made the impact Bergeron has made.

Bergeron absolutely shut down guys like Crosby, Ovi, the Sedin's etc. O'Reilly has yet to really do that

- sbroads24

And Bergeron started being that complete shut down player around the age that ROR is now.

He wasn't the defensive stalwart he is now early on.

He was more O and IMO is better than ROR in that category on a whole.

Like I said, it does have some merit and when comparing contract it's in the right range.

People cam say I think like Darcy all they want, but I really don't care for the "win sooner" mentality when it comes to this rebuild. I want it done right. I don't want this rush to one cup run with a few star players like the Penguins and then have years of depth - less early exits

I agree. But evidently that's what is rumored to pay for him.

Everything has a limited time window. And that goes for roster space that could be filled by better players. If our roster/prospect pipeline is already jammed, we can afford to make some moves to help us improve early without having to blow up the farm.

we can't be trading our good D prospects for wingers, especially if we include Grigs and a first.

Look at our right wing depth and try again.

So we trade Zads, one of our top D prospects, a 1st, and Grigs, for a player who will be playing a position where we need the least help in? I'm nott sure what you're saying.

We need a winger that can score, O'Reilly wouldn't be my first target

I'd like Jonathan Huberdeau. I think he'd excel opposite Kane.

Probably not available, though.

Since Tallon took over, Huberdeau has never been marketed commercially, which always struck me as odd. It's always been Barkov, Bjugstad and Ekblad as the "young guns".

...unsigned UFAs? Do you even pay attention to the arguments you try to make?
- awildmudkip

And the only way that happens is if he's bought out. Which means he isn't in Buffalo so it's a win and I will bet none of the playoff teams are looking at Hodgson as a player that out them over the hump

The Bergeron comparison does have some merit.

This he's a Lady Bing winner so he is thus a soft player thought process has me baffled.

It has been said by opponents that he is a pain in the ass to play against and knows the game in a way that he doesn't take penalties while doing it.

The Kopitar one is way off.

- dadeadhead

Last year he took 1 penalty in 8 games. This year he took 6 in 82. That is the epitome of a disciplined player.

I like ROR but he is a category below Kopitar and Bergeron IMO.
- SABRES 89

He's below Kopitar. His numbers are on par with Bergeron and Kesler the last few seasons. So he is a $6-6.5 million player now. It's not a stretch that he would get $7 million in his next contract, and if he got 6 or 7 years, in 3 that contract will be a steal.

So two guys who could barely crack the lineup on the worst teams in decades and a late #1 pick that is 3 years away from the NHL best case is too much for a guy who is in the prime of his career? Got it. Thanks for stopping by.
