That's a pretty damn good young core

Agreed. The Blues have a top-10 system, in my opinion.

They moved him because they had Sedin and Kesler down the middle and they felt the need to get tougher after Boston bullied them in the cup final.

That's why they wanted Kassian

- sbroads24

You mean because Hodgson is yet another soft player as well and Kesler and Sedin are much better than him

If he produced as well as you think why did they move him?

There is a reason he is a candidate for a buyout.

- Stripes77

Because they were criticized heavily by being a soft team. At the time, Zack Kassian was our top prospect praised for his production and physical play. At the time, the Sabres needed a center where Vancouver had plenty of depth with Sedin and Kessler. It was a surprise move by Darcy, but made the swap happen.

It made sense at the time, but if Vancouver knows what they do now, I'm 99% sure they don't trade for Kassian.

So now word is Babcock sought out SJ to get them involved? Seems like Buffalo is being used. Hope Murray is talking to other coaches.

They got a problem with Moulson because of his money and contract and that is all.
- SABRES 89

ya get what ya get with moulson. Not a great skater, goes to the net and scores when he has talent around him. Absolutely needs somebody to get him the puck or hes useless. Not sure why murray signed him last summer, except its pretty obvious how limited he is if he isnt playing with somebody to set him up. Hes on the wrong side of 30 but i bet hes still good for 20 next year if hes in the top 6. Still a strange signing though.

Yes pretty much. But that really has nothing to do with the debate at hand.

Nothing wrong with shopping around. I'm sure Babcock has interest in more than 10 teams he would want to coach, but the number of teams willing to pay the price and draft pick are few and far between. I'm sure Murray has more options as well.

Sure it does, because Hodgson is soft and can't play D, also with the players that are going to be here he does not fit into our top 6 and depending on who you're talking too our top 9

I agree for the most part. I do think however he absolutely will score 20 goals again for some team either at center or wing.

That Fat Pig does have a championship on his resume, which is a criteria you often (correctly) use.

Better how ? in a wheel chair race ? that team is slow. Sounds like Babcock might be playing games.

Or just keeping all his options open. Like Tim Murray said after the lottery: it costs nothing to listen.

You might be right but it won't be a playoff team, and hopefully its not with the Sabres.

Debatable. Blues are platueaing and the Sabres have a higher ceiling. Sure, the Blues are in the playoffs next year but the Sabres could more than likely be a bubble team with more growth the following year. It's interesting, that's for sure.

Hard to say. Kassian has value today. Coho- not at his current contract. Remember vancouver did everything they could to hide his defensive flaws and highlight his offense- almost all of his shifts started in the offensive zone, and he played on the pp. I wouldnt say darcy got swindled- neither player is setting the league on fire- it was just trading a young power forward prospect (when we didnt have any that werent 4th line plugs) for a one dimensional scoring center that doesnt score that much and is a trainwreck in his own end.

The Sabres have a bunch of players who have proven nothing yet, and that includes Eichel, Reinhart, et. al. The Sabres are still behind the 8-ball. Now, for a team that is rebuilding, they're in a good position, but the ideal situation is to not have to blow the damn thing up. St. Louis is still a better situation for just about anybody than Buffalo.

I am not sure Kassian has much value. He might have more than Hodgson but that's not saying much.
