I think it's pretty early to run bernier outta town. someone yesterday mentioned habs fans wanting price gone. I remember friends who couldnt believe they traded Halak.
from 2008 to 2013 prices sv% was .905,.912,.923,.916,.905
Bernier will not become price, but a .917SV% as a leaf isnt poop - GardinerExpress
he's poop, he's too small, has concentration issues and always lets in a bad goal |

thing is we only really have space for 1 goalie...could draft a few and just sign the best one in a couple years when its AHL time. Bibeau will probably still be around then. |

he wasn't?
he wasn't tradeable until he played behind a stacked LA team that is very stingy defensively
you think the Leafs could have got a third for him? - the_eye
He wasn't tradeable until he went to LA? This is aside from the idea that LA traded for him? You're implying that a GM who architected a cup winning team saw him as worthless, traded for him anyways? And then turned him into a third round pick within half a season? What are you talking about?
This is beside the point. What the leafs paid for bernier years ago is completely irrelevant to what his value is worth now. He's a 26 year old starting goaltender with upside. You don't exactly see those traded every day, right? The comparable is Corey Schneider. Bernier has more value than a 2nd round pick now. If teams aren't willing to pay more (which I'm willing to be they are), it makes no sense at all to trade him. |

and habs fans used to say carey was poop and too relaxed. he also used to get lit in the playoffs and couldnt win the big game.... |

Hopefully you guys don't go with Strome.
Stack the back end with Hannifin, or go with Marner.
What a floater Strome is.

I'm actually hoping they snag Marner. couple big centers in the draft next year we could target, but there is only 1 guy with marners skill |

LA traded their backup, cause he was gonna ask for too much being a restricted free agent. they needed a goalie back. the second was the best offer they got, c'mon Bernier isn't that good |

Carey was 21, is twice the size and was better than Bernier in every aspect or the game at 21 |

the man was like 6th in sv% two seasons ago, even with how terrible the leafs were last year he was middle of the pack.
how does just dumping him off help? Obviously we will lose more with reimer but we have to get value back |

goal tending is the most important position of the game, no 1 centre is second most |

i don't think they can lose more than 32 of their last 40 games even with Reimer |

so draft a pile of goalies only being able to sign 1 or 2 and just ignore everything else?
goalies are the HB's of the NHL. most are interchangeable and they rarely go rd 1 |

reimer is 21-32-2 the last 2 years, so yeah thats easily a lottery pick |

They didn't 'need' a goalie back. Their system was stocked just fine. They wanted scrivens back because he'd put up capable numbers as a backup on a not so great team.
Bernier was unproven, which is why he only landed a 2nd and two capable roster players who were both eventually moved for future value. Lombardi was interested in both players, and two additional GM's gave up pretty good value for those players to.
Toronto has matured bernier and taken some of the unproven away. They've proven he can manage a starters schedule to a degree, and put up capable numbers on the worst defensive team in the league. There's still tons of upside with him. If at 26, you have him pegged as a worthless handoff who's worth less than he was when the leafs traded for him, id think you're way off. |

i just want him traded now while they can get something in return cause he really is poop, but playing behind a poop Leafs team might make other GM's think he isn't |

I was never aguing price isnt the superior tender.
did fans run him out when he was 13-20-5 in 2010?
how about when they were worst in the east in 2012?
in 2013 his .905 sv% ranked bottom 5 in the NHL.
price has had 3 terrible seasons and another not good one. Bernier has had 1. give him a year or 2 and see what we got instead of shipping him off for "poop" |
