Idc about my "shutdown" pairs offensive ability.
Bogosian will never be Shea Weber, but if he can be like Seabrook or Girardi I'll be more than happy
Ristolainen & Zadorov have some offensive potential
As does McCabe
Mike Green is definitely not a guy we should go after. His defense is at the point where he'd be on our bottom pair & we'd be paying him 5mil +
And would he even be the pp QB we are looking for? Hes not even on the Caps #1 unit

- jdfitz77

Problem is he has never succeeded in a shut down role on a top pair.

He has had major consistency issues defensively. He tends to always go for a big hit, and has a tendency to take a bad penalty.

I like the player on our 2nd pair, a lot actually. But with him also being a righty, I don't see him ever being paired with Risto

Sea brook is "ok" offensively
He averages around 8g & 35pts
Bogo is 23
He can be around those #s

Bogo will be 25 to start next season

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Wednesday that Todd McLellan is expected to be the next head coach of the Edmonton Oilers "barring a major collapse."

The Oilers and McLellan haven't commented on the speculation. "I think the (hiring) process is moving forward," said Edmonton's vice-president of communications, Tim Shipton. "I don't get the sense that they want it to be a long, drawn-out effort. The process continues. I don't think things are signed, sealed and delivered with any coach at the moment." Shipton expects a coach to be named by the end of the month, which could coincide nicely with McLellan's return from the Czech Republic, where he is coaching Canada at the World Hockey Championships.

I think he's a good coach

Oduya is too old
Agree on ROR
Hate your goalie picks. Esp Ramo & Neuvirth. We should be going for Vasilevskiy, Gibson, Allen... Someone like that. Also, no thanks to Jones. Not that he couldn't end up good. But every LA goalie looks good, & I haven't seen enough from him to think he's a #1 guy

- jdfitz77

Oduya is 33 he has at least 2 solid years left. He is a good stop gap until Zadorov is ready IMO.

Neuvirth was pretty solid here and also only 27. So he is just coming into his prime as a goalie. You get 6 good years in his prime. Ramo is a bit older but he is a good stop gap and won't cost a ton. Gibson and Allen you need to trade for. I would rather not give up assets to get a goalie, I would rather use them elsewhere (like getting a top line RW or top pairing D)

I guess if he's just a stop gap that's ok, but is he gonna sign a 2-3yr deal w a team that's prob not competing until year 3?
I don't know if it makes sense for him
He prob signs with a team that's competing right now
Plus,
I feel like Georges is our stop gap. Do we need 2?
I'd rather get a guy in his mid 20s that we know will be around for a while

Sure, Neuvirth looked ok, but that was a small sample size. I wouldn't mind him as a backup, but he also was pretty upset leaving here. I doubt he'd want to come back. And I want someone with a higher ceiling. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean we'd have to make a trade & give up assets

Touché
But if you're willing to use that argument for Myers, shouldn't u also be open to using it with Bogosian?
There's a reason this kid was picked #3

Apparently there's rumors out there that Babcock is signing with the Sabres as early as Monday (they were talking about it on wgr)
Nothing concrete though

I still think it's 50/50 between us & the Wings

If you can get a guy like Oduya on your second pairing at a 3-4 year contract I would be all for it.

Risto- Bogosian
Pysyk- Oduya
Gorges- Zadorov
Weber

I think that's a good starting base. This way you can protect Zadorov if you don't send him to Rochester with giving him more sheltered minutes until he develops more.

That leaves 4 guys in their 20's (Bogosian will be 25, Pysyk is 23, Risto is 20, Zadorov just turned 20). So that's 3 guys under 24 and one that just turned 25. IMO you need some experience back there and not just one guy.

Playing with 2 seasoned vets in Gorges and Oduya. I think that's a pretty solid base to work with.

I don't think you're going to get a guy with a higher ceiling than Neuvirth that is ready to be a starter, and not going to demand a higher salary than 3 to 4 million a year (I am not spending big on a goalie). His big issue is staying healthy or he could very well have been the starting goalie for the Caps instead of Holby.

You must not have been around yesterday when that came out.

Yes, Buffalo39, who broke the Kane/Myers trade and the Tallinder trade before said it on here at like 9 am yesterday. Said it's 95% done and to expect something on Monday.

He also said that Eichel has already told Buffalo he won't be returning to school (though that doesn't sit well with me considering he hasn't even been drafted yet).

They do interviews at the combine and I am pretty sure asking the question "What are your future plans" is acceptable. That being said the combine hasn't happened yet and I do not know the rules about talking to players prior, though scouts talk to players all the time so I don't think its against any rules.

Just was told,Babcock deal 95% done with Buffalo. Sabres paying big price tag. Should be concluded by Monday
- Buffalo39

I was thinking about this information from yesterday, and while I was initially very excited to hear it (and still am), I am wondering how this is going to happen by Monday. With Babcock over at the Worlds, and from all the info we have heard to this point stating that Murray and the Sabres were not going and that they are not over there, how is this really going to be finalized by Monday? Seems really tight.

I'm not doubting Buffalo39's info....he's been money in the past, but by shear logistics, I think Monday might be optimistic. Not saying it won't happen, but there is a lot that has to happen in 3-4 days when the parties aren't even in the same country.

I guess I am just really trying to hold down my excitement right now. All of the national media are still on several other teams ahead of Buffalo at this point. Granted, that doesn't mean a lot, but I guess I was hoping that with this info from Buffalo39 yesterday, I was hoping for more leaks and speculation for Buffalo today for more confirmation.

I'm not saying any rules were broken, just seems a bit premature is all. It's one of those things where maybe it did happen, but it seems unlikely to me at the moment.

Considering its been McDavid and Eichel as the consensus 1 and 2 all year by a long shot and everyone and their grandmother knows McDavid is going to be drafted #1 and hopefully Murray has come to his senses and realized the amount to move up 1 spot is not worth it its pretty probable a conversation has been had about it.

They already met for hours, and probably went over most of the main details. I wouldn't be concern in today's day and age about finalizing a contract with someone half way around the world.
