I also feel like Columbus could be a good trade partner. They need D BADLY. Trade seabrook for a guy like boone jenner. It acts as a salary dump, and the hawks get back a really solid young, 2 way center that could easily fill the 2c void.

Definitely! And then maybe Philly will trade Giroux for a box of used condoms.

Makes sense. He went all in this year for a reason.

If I am Bowman then I have to consider moving Crawford because he is the only one of the big three that can bring back a very good pick or prospect(s). Sharp might get, maybe a 2nd rounder or such, and Bickell is, well maybe similar if we eat 2 million or so in his salary?

This plus the Hawks have a lot of players in the system who are ready or will be ready within the next year or so including McNeill, Danault, Hartman, Ross, Johns, Pokka, TVR(stay healthy), Baun, Kero, Paliotta. Plus the players they just signed in Gustaffson and Panarin. Stan can't keep signing and bringing in these guys only to trade them once their value has dropped from festering in the minor. It's illogical given the cap business and also deters younger players from coming here if they feel like they'll never see NHL ice.

All signs point to major and significant changes this summer with only the CORE players remaining.

Whats the definition of festering in the minors? Detroit waits with most of their players and usually to their benefit not detriment.

The Hawks assets that were moved weren't moved because they passed some kind of arbitrary expiration date in the minors. They were moved because they had little value to the big club today and were needed to obtain more desirable assets.

With the amount of college free agents that have signed here as well as snagging a few from Europe, I think the Hawks do a fine job attracting talent.

I hate talking next year when Hawks are in the WF

I see the Hawks trading expensive bodies plus fringe players for 1 big name.

Sharp,Bicks, Shaw Nordstrum and a prospect to Carolina for Eric Staal and a pick.
Hawks solidify the second center spot for a long time allowing the Rockford rookie to fill in on the wing, they clear cap space in spots they can fill from the AHL.

Everyone sees Crawford as gone ...I don't but we will see.

- Colbyboy

If you do this trade Crawford would have to be gone (to fit a roster under the salary cap). You understand Staal will take up 8.25 million in cap? This would make us very top heavy like the Penguins, not to mention our bigger need is on defense (since Oduya would also be gone with this trade). Your trade frees up around 4 milion in cap space when we need to free up around 8 million in order to re-sign Saad and Kruger have a couple milion to hand out to players so our team isn't full of league min guys.

I sure hope you don't sell for a living where the company might expect to make a profit. But then again, devaluing assets in order to get rid of them doesn't take much work or thinking. It's what made Mike Milbury so successful as an NHL manager.

And what indication do you have that any of those young players are ready or will be ready to play with the Hawks next year? What they are at this point are controllable assets on EL contracts or RFA's with limited options. Its up to them to make the jump and stay in the NHL.

Bowman and his staff have done a great job not only in keeping this team competative for the past 5 years but in not doing what many GMs, and almost all fans do, and that is panic at the first sign of trouble. While fans clamour at the TDL for the team to make crazy bold moves, and many teams make all kinds of crazy trades seemingly in a panic, Bowman doesn't get all bent out of shape and instead makes calculated moves or in many cases, non moves. Lucky for us Hawk fans Bowman and his staff don't act like airport windsocks, changing their opinion or strategy with every win or loss but instead have the ability to see the big picture. Many have said this is the golden age to be a Hawk fan with excellent on ice personell, with exceptional coaching, an outstanding Front office that manages the team and the business as well as or better than anyone and of course a top end owner who not only corrected all his father messed up but who is willing to continue to ensure this team is competative.

I like our team .... indeed!

Seabrook is not getting traded. If Oduya is gone we only have 3 reliable d-men, doubt the Hawks trade one without a replacement in place. On offense we have Toews, Kane, Hossa, Saad (RFA), TT, Sharp, Panarin, Bickell, Shaw and Versteeg under contract. All of those guys can or have been top 6 players. Expect the Hawks to trade from that surplus rather than a d-man.

New blog up. Ducks fans not interested in reality should probably avoid it.

I was just trying to think of something that could rid the hawks of salary, and bring back a decent return. Jenner would be good for the hawks too, he brings a bit of a rough and tough physical element, along with a good set of playmaking and scoring skill.

Yup - and he is deleting about 60% of the comments lol

Funny how the preds fans and that Wheaton troll call this an arrogant Hawk fan thing. McCann is frequently getting caught making material errors in his blog. He is either not watching the games and/or having an assistant/intern post these updates. Pretty easy to call him out on it. Particularly after the cheap shots he continuously takes on the Hawks. Their envy is delicious.

Could trade them Mike Reilly instead.

Seabs for Boone Jenner would be legendarily lopsided in their direction. Would need Jenner and Ryan Murray back minimum and Jarmo would never do it.

Andrew Shaw may not quite do what Brendan Gallagher does for the Habs but he doesn't have that type of contract either. And he is a much better and versatile player than either of Weise or Smith-Pelly, neither of whom would even get a sniff playing for Q.

Shaw may get moved in the offseason but he would be missed. Bowman would do it reluctantly.

- RickJ

Agree. Not sure why so many seem to think Shaw is going. He's still under a manageable cap hit and other than Toews he is about the only guy that consistently goes to the net.

Yawn. You post on other threads about the ignorance and arrogance of Hawks fans - even your own family - and then come here to waste time. Run off to the Philly thread and discuss the fountain of defensemen about to save that franchise.

You are right. Why trade Shaw ? We need a fourth liner Who has no fear going to the net and plays tough and rough at a pretty low salary hit. Can' have all rookies playing on the fourth line. He is the only player we have right now who gets under the opponents skin.
