Did you hear that a framework of a deal for anyone but ROR was in place?

On a side note, which organization is in worse shape: Phily or Toronto. I would think Philly because they decided not to rebuild and they are in the same situation that we were in for years (right around 8th place with no real hope of winning the cup).

Hm... Philly I'd guess is a little worse off. Now look at the Devils. Talk about WOOF.

Agreed. The other day I saw that their blogger commended Lou on the trade to get the goalie for the 9th overall pick a couple of years ago. Because, you know, you can't get goalies just anywhere.

The Mike Babcock watch continues

Good job again B0os.

Heard Compher regarding him going back to school. He seemed ok with it and thinks it will be better for him. That's a good attitude to have .

The right GM could have made that work.

I doubt it, there's a chance his home may be pipe-bombed. Not saying by who, it's just a premonition.

I feel like this gets exaggerated a little bit.

Look at who is left

Carey Price- MVP
Lunqvist- Best in the last 10 years
Jonas Hiller- Bonafide starter over the past 5 years
Crawford _Cup winning goalie
Bishop- Has been a starter for a few years
Dubnyk- Came out of nowhere, but was highly thought of before EDM ruined him
Frederick Andersson - Came out of no where

I agree that the Schnieder trade was dumb, but you still need a solid starter to do anything in this league

I'm not sure which side of the argument you are on from your post, but I'd say Crawford, Andersson, Hiller, Bishop, and Dubnyk prove you don't need an 'elite' goalie to make noise in the playoffs as long as you have a good team around them.

I have very little I can add to the coaching discusion that hasn't been kicked around for weeks already.

Therefore:

There is a big middle ground from "elite" to finding them anywhere.

Also, at times they have to play elite. Dubnyk played elite, and it propelled them to the post season. Same with Montreal. They are a very mediocre team, without Price they aren't in the 2nd round

Bishop is very close to that elite group

Price is a Hart trophy finalist. He's elite. Dubnyk is having a great season, but last year people thought he was trash. He's the epitome of a guy that was found just 'anywhere'.

And they were obviously not correct.

There are certain teams that you could argue could plug in a goalie from anywhere and he would succeed, like LA. But in general that's not the case.

Quick had the lowest SV% in the postseason for a cup winning goalie last season in a long time

Hiller isn't the starter in Calgary. Him and Ramo split most of the season, Hiller started the playoffs but mostly because Ramo was banged up and then got pulled in favor of Ramo at the beginning of the current series. While Ramo hasn't had a ton of luck against the Ducks either, he has managed to get them a W and keep them in the series thus far.

I would be willing to bet Dubnyk is closer to trash than he is to the goalie he's been this season.

price - drafted
lundy - drafted
hiller - ufa pick up
crawford - drafted
dubnyk - trade (several times)
bishop - trade (twice)
anderson - drafted after being dropped by carolina

they are all over the board - i dont think you necessarily need to buy hugh on a goalie

If you do not have an elite goalie, and there are only a handful of them, a split goalie system is the way to go.

Ride the hot one in the playoffs

Makes perfect sense in a cap era

I could play net on the wild and put up better numbers then some upper end goalies would on a team like the oilers

this surprises nobody, the bigger surprise is they were doing it in the second half for a game where the outcome was already decided in their favor long before halftime
