And that might happen but I wouldn't count on it.

Michael

Michael, there has been lots of chatter on this blog lately about the Sabres potentially emptying the cupboards for a ROR or Kessel type player. Maybe you can write a blog about the implications (positive and negative) of trying to speed up the rebuild.

Great stuff as usual, please keep it up......

I doubt it, there's a chance his home may be pipe-bombed. Not saying by who, it's just a premonition.

Great job Mike,
I am on the fence about Babcock. He is a great coach but he did inherit a good team when he went to Detroit. I think we need to hire a coach who can grow with this team. Not come in with unreasonable expectations in his first year behind the bench. I wouldn't mind Guy Boucher as head coach with Luke Richardson as an assistant. Would also love to see Scott Arniel back to run the special teams!

Babcock will have more pressure on him to win NOW with the Oilers then any other team. He will be in hot water every game.
- SABRES 89

I mean he's coached team Canada twice, once on home soil, so I don't think he's pressure averse. Philly, St. Louis seem like good fits too.

No one who goes to Edmonton is going to be expected to win now. McDavid as a rookie doesn't turn the 3rd worst team in the league into a competitor.

They need a goalie and a solid top 2 D or they will lose a lot of 7-6 games.

Lets face it they should move Drasitil (sp) plus a guy like Eberle for a top 2 D and they will start making noise.

With a team that has RNH, Hall, Yakapov, and McDavid they should be a playoff team

When did I say we needed Babcock ? I said we need a proven NHL head coach with a system, I said we needed McDavid. McLellen fits
- SABRES 89

You said we don't need Babock, move on earlier in the thread. I was just commenting on the fact that he is one of maybe 3 guys who fit the criteria that you say we need. So in my eyes, we NEED him or mclellan

What we need are good players, its amazing how a good coach becomes a great coach with them.

We should trade 21st OA and Grigorenko for Ovechkin.

Everything out side of their top 10 picks is atrocious. They need better depth forwards, probably 3 top 4 D and a starting goalie before they will become competitive. And a good coach wouldn't hurt. Before I would of been confident in saying that even with McDavid this team won't make the playoffs for years but with Chiarelli I think he'll be able to put the pieces in places but its just gonna take a few years. And I agree about Trading Yak Draisaitl or Eberle to fill some holes. I would probably wait a little. Give Yak a chance to up his value and see what they have in Draisaitl.

I'm guessing the Oilers will package Pittsburgh's 1st and Marincin for a D, sign a D in free agency and either sign a goalie or trade for one. I don't think this is the summer Chiarelli trades one of their core forwards

Were there rumors that Compher was considering leaving school already? I assumed (especially after his struggles this year) that he was going back. The prospect that I think could leave school early is Fasching. But I still think he ends up back in Minnesota as well.

Babcock's coaching choices:

1. Stay put.
2. Edmonton
3. Buffalo

Those are the only options he will look at. If he decides to leave Detroit, he wants to go to a team that has a boat load of prospects. He's not interested in fixing Toronto, or Philly...

It wouldn't surprise me if they try to keep these kids in school or juniors for as long as possible because we can't sign them all because of the 50 contract limit.

On a side note, which organization is in worse shape: Phily or Toronto. I would think Philly because they decided not to rebuild and they are in the same situation that we were in for years (right around 8th place with no real hope of winning the cup).

Not really. He basically just did an interview and said the Sabres suggested he go back to school for another year.
