Lemieux also had this thing called cancer which- and I'll go out on a limb here- had a lot more to do with his career.
It was VERY rare for Toews to play with Bickell.
Certainly size has it's purposes and can help, but not at the expense of effectiveness. I'm not gonna push a guy like Eberle down in the line-up unless the player pushing him down makes his line more effective.
See Pouliot, for example. As far I saw, RNH and Eberle were more effective with him than they were with Hall (as short a sample, as it may have been) and as a result have no issue moving Hall to a different line in hopes he can help make that other line more effective. - MaximumBone
I like Pouliot, but I'd prefer a larger version of him and a bit more talent as a winger for McDavid. It remains to be seen who McDavid meshes best with but I maintain that he needs to have a stud winger on his line, whether left or right.
As for bucks, he deserved to be the MVO when the Hawks won their last Cup, not Kane. Without Bickel, who played top 6 minutes that year, the Hawks simply wouldn't have won.
Also, as you've pointed out, the Hawks have Seabrook & other D ready to step in for protection, but I still want a big winger for McD. I think Chiarelli will address this when he re-balances the Oil. |

I seem to remember on of the MSM guys saying that Yak and Hall actually played well together. - GreenBastard
I seem to remember it having been mentioned by myself and many others here in the Oilers boards
But in all seriousness, while they have been solid together, those have been in very small samples and when combined together on a line with RNH, all of their games were negatively impacted. Most of Yak's success has come when playing with lesser offensive players (Horcoff and Roy) as his center. Guys that play a simple, straight-line game seems to compliment Yak really well. This, unfortunately, becomes a problem when trying to allocate him top-6 minutes on this team.
All of RNH, Eberle, and Leon are more cerebral, East-West players who prefer creating offense down low and are most effective when utilized in such a way
McDavid and Hall are the types of players who cater themselves to their teammates creating offense however their line would be best utilized (limited McDavid viewings, but it seems to be the case). They're equally effective at either method.
This leaves Yak who seems VERY set on a straight line game, but the types of players who typically play that way are grinders and less skilled players. In the end, maybe it's not wrong to play Yak on a line with and guy like Lander centering him. I know people hate the hear it, but maybe that's simply what's best for Yak. |

Maybe they dangle Yak for a grittier player that would fit with Hall /McDavid. |

But who is both bigger and more talented version of Pouliot and what would he cost? It's great that you want that but- with the exception of a few players like Pacioretty, Wheeler, Ladd, Benn, and Nash- I don't think such a player exists (on the wing, at least).
I think you may be selling Pouliot short as far as talent goes, cause you'd be hard pressed to find a guy his size with more talent. Consistency has always been his issue so far in his career and it remains to be seen if playing alongside RNH and Eberle resolves that issue, but early returns are at least promising. |
